Turn the brush ring anti clockwise so the top brush is to the right as you look at it. lift the spring out the way and hook it to the side of the brush holder. you can then remove and replace the top brush easily.
For the bottom brush remove the switch from the machine by undoing the cable clamp and pulling the two push on wires to the field just above the switch in the housing. Then turn the brush ring so that the lower brush holder is in the middle and remove the brush as you did with the top one. After turn the ring to one side and refit the switch. Job done. (Don't forget to release the springs back onto the brushes.)

SOURCE: makita bdf452hw drill the brake does not work.

Yes it is probably the trigger, that makes the current go in reverse to act as a brake.

Hi,I have a makita impact driver, I press the trigger and don't work, only the light come on,I replace the trigger but I still have the same problem.

I would guess that you have a motor issue. It maybe as simple as needing new brushes. I have an Makita impact at work and it has carbon brushes and if one of those goes bad or hangs up it will stop the driver. Hope this helps!

Makita troubleshooting

The BDF452HW has a carbon brush motor - and they do eat up brushes quickly. The brush set number is CB440 - they are replaceable by removing the 2 screws on the rear cap, the connectors snap over the brush holder - take care not to bend the brush holders when changing, they are just thin brass.
If the tool is 'ticking' or 'grinding' when it spins check the condition of the armature before you install new brushes - the copper commutator should not look burnt or have raised segments - this is also a common repair on this tool. Replacing the armature is a fairly inexpensive and easy fix - you must split the entire clamshell housing to access this - be sure to fit all the components securely back into their slots or you may tear all the fan blades off the armature when you try and run it.

Need carbon brushes for makita mod#m601 10mm drill

I could only find a 601D which is a cordless drill with a sealed motor so you can't just replace the brushes and the motor is discontinued.

How to dismantle a makita HP electrical hammer drill, want to replace the brushes

Check out the split drawing on this page.
If your makita does not have any outside accessible brush caps, you need to dismantle it.
lay it on the side, where the side with the screws securing the to halves together is facing up.
Remove all screws (some may be hidden under labels etc.) Gently pry the halves apart, locate the brushes disconnect their leads if any, and remove. Install new brushes and make sure the move freely, and that they are springloaded when in place. Gently rotate the rotor to ensure everything is ok . Reassemble and test drill. If the brushes leaves long streaks of noticeably large sparks, something has gone wrong or the rotor was damaged in the first place, causing excessive wear.
