Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer
While following the instructions to install my Canon PIXMA MP 830 printer I got the the section which says to install the print head. However, the print head seemed to have been already installed in the printer. I did not see an orange protective cap, so I went ahead and installed the three ink tanks. However, I still get this message to install the print head and set the ink tanks. I have already installed the software (Set up CD-ROM Disk) but it looks like I will not be able to print any document, until I resolve this error message. Should I take the print head out of the printer, and reinstall? If so, how do I take it out?

I'm guessing this MP830 is not brand new so I'm going to get you to reverse the process so we can check what's in there.
1. Remove the cartridges
2. Lift the grey arm on the carriage (the bit that holds the cartridges and printhead)
3. Gently pull the printhead forward and out of the carriage unit
From here on in you need to check that:
a) you have a printhead after all (if you couldn't find a printhead then this explains your problem immediately)
b) the printhead is not soiled on the back where all the electrical contacts are
c) that the carriage unit has all the copper pins in place and none of them are bent, broken off, or otherwise damaged.
If the printhead is missing entirely or simply not responding and there's no problem with the pins in the carriage (#3 above) then the simplest solution is to contact Canon and order a new printhead (ref: QY6-0061). Canon in the USA provide the cheapest printheads and I'm guessing that's where you're based.
Once that arrives, install properly and then you should (hopefully) be good to go... While you're waiting though, I'd recommend putting the orange caps back on the cartridge ink ports to stop them drying out.
