Question about Mitsubishi CS-35805 35" TV

Mitsu CS-35805 - vertical distortion issue

We have just brought our set home from being repaired - the picture would constantly fade to black after staying on for a few minutes - the repair was relatively cheap and only replacement was a new circuit board, but recently the picture has gotten worse. It ranges from the picture constantly distorting vertically by bowing at the corners and other times simply compressing the image vertically all together. Also if the screen were to brighten, or there happens to be a white background the image would just warp randomly and then return to normal. Sometimes you won't notice any problem with the picture, but there is always some issue happening 80 % of the time. It happens on every input and there will always be a very low hum coming from the back of the set when this occurs. If it is a connect issue with the previous problem we had, then that can be covered under the warranty of the repair, although it is a heavy set and a pain to transport. Thanks for any help.

Re: Mitsu CS-35805 - vertical distortion issue

I highly doubt the circuit board was replaced, you had a simple 2 minute repair I'm sorry to say. They only re soldered the CRT board or the fly back connections, very common on this TV set. You now have a power supply issue, or a vertical drive or output problem. If you just brought the set home, I would contact the repair shop and see what they have to say and ask them the part number for the board they replaced. bet they say they forgot or don't remember. Good Luck

I have a Mitsubishi CS 3515R 35" Tube TV. The screen has narrowed at the top and the bottom so only about 2/3 of the horizontal screen has picture. There are black areas at the top and bottom....

There are two issues, the first is a vertical deflection problem, "needs a few parts+an ic" the second problem is intermittent color, "crystal and color processor ic" If the set is close to 10 years old then your money is better spent on a new tv.

TV picture randomly fades to black. Bang on sides and pix comes back for few monents b4 fading out again. TV works great except for this one little problem---no picture.

You have an aging TV with a very common problem . The board inside by now has many bad solder grounds. The grounds would inculde resoldering the vertical IC chip. It is located on a large heatsink. And check solder grounds on the horizontal output transistor also mounted on a heatsink. The horizontal transformer is another suspect, resolder this. Check for grounds on large resistors and the flyback transformer. Also make sure there is a good connection on the suction cup that is mounted on the back of the picture tube. Please be careful when checking the connection on the suction cup..quite a powerful shock. Also be sure you have good solder grounds on the small board that is connected to the picture tube. This should restore the video on your TV. Be very careful and good luck. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support.

Picture is distorted

Not knowing the model or brand that you have, I would suspect you have a vertical deflection issue. Have a repair shop check it out. Should be cost effective if the set is not too old.

Distorted picture on my 32" Proscan TV...(about 15 years old)

The RCA GE sets have a problem with bad solder connections in the tuner unit which also causes numerous symptoms including poor regulation, no vertical deflection, low audio or dead set.

Pulling in from the sides is either poor regulation or a bad eeprom/solder join issue

Black horizontal lines across bottom 1/3 of screen

This is due to vertical section failure. Change the vertical supply rectifier diode and supply filters. Then check zener diode leakage in pumpup circuit section. Also check any electrolytic capacitors leakage in vertical section. If it is old model tv change vertical height, vertical lenearity presets also. I hope given details useful to you.

is this a horizontal black line going up or down? if yes, this sympton is caused by a trouble in the integrated circuit or in the vertical oscillator circuit. this symptons has 2 variations. one is the intermittent rolling of the picture. this referred to as the "loose vertical hold" the other variations is the continuous upward or downward rolling of the picture

One thing you should not do with electronic devices which have a start up proceedure is to turn the power off, and then on again without a wait of about five minutes. Some equipment manuals warn you about this, and specify a longer period. The start-up has to have time to reset. It will be more likely to reset if you do not leave it on standby, and even unplug it. In your TVs case you need to describe the distorted picture as it may give a clue to a fault, or incorrect start-up. The horizontal line indicates the frame timebase had stopped working. No picture could be a fuse blown inside the set, or a timed cutout which may reset after a time. Try after several hours to see if it comes on. If it is just the frame timebase (vertical) it is worth repairing.

Picture faded to black, came back, faded again and had stayed black.

It seems your set has a loose conection in the high voltage circuits,in fact by now it should have many loose conections in different areas like the power supply and the horizontal deflection circuits,if you are familiar with tv service you can use the information as the first step to take, some of the loose conections are hard to see even for the trained technician but the one giving you this problem should not be hard to see,if you are not too familiar with tv service be safe and call for assistance from a servicer a least for an estimate.

Sorry to be the one to inform you Sheri, but this set is known to have several bad capacitors in the sweep as well as the power supply. Unless you have an ESR type capacitor checker, your going to have to take it in for service, by a pro. Hope yopu did'nt pay to much for it. Good Luck
