Question about PC Desktops

My Laptop suddenly takes 15 minutes to turn on from the loading screening (where it says acer after its turned on and the blue loading bar is going) and simple tasks are now slower, such as the media player cannot play songs without it skipping, the mouse lags and other software seems to take longer to load.

Thats the thing though. The laptop was acting a little slow about a month ago so I bought two 2gb kingston ram sticks to toss in there. It worked great! Then I defragmented and disk cleaned up and cleaned out all the temp internet folders and cookies, all the basics, to get the extra speed. It worked fine for a month and then suddenly one day it took 15 minutes to turn on for no real reason. I don't use any software that would slow it down. Even before I put the sticks in it wasn't that slow. I took out the ram and placed them back in to see if it had dislodged but that didn't correct the problem. Could it be that the sticks have suddenly become faulty, or do I need new drivers? For awhile, I was beginning to think it was my video card???

Really?? How does the Hdrive effect the speed of the computer turning on or the music skipping? The computer is practically new, hard drives last longer than a year? Though, that is a good Idea, i'll back up my files just in case. :)

The best thing you can do is add more RAM. As more programs and documents are loaded the more RAM it needs. However, there are also a couple of other things you can try first. This will clean up all the old /tmp files that are not needed and also fix your hard drive so all the data is together and not spread out.
click on start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk cleanup. Run this first to get rid of the junk files that are left on your computer by websites
After the disk cleanup go back to the same location and run Defrag.
Each time you delete a file it leaves a blank space on the hard drive. after a while it takes longer to find files. The defrag will push all the data together in a row so it is faster to find.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like your hard drive is almost on the way out...but don't take that as a "for sure"...but if you start hearing a clicking sound when you start up, its the hard drive. Just to be safe you should do a back up on all of your documents, favorites, emails, etc.

My Aunt has an Acer laptop that she would like to hook up to a monitor. She has macular degeneration and cannot read the screen so she wants to hook it up to her specialized monitor. How would she do this?

You can connect the monitor to the laptop only if your laptop has a VGA plug and the monitor has the right connector.
The connector on the laptop it's usually blue in the center with 15 holes. If your not sure please post your type of laptop model and I will check it out and guide you to your connector.

If you succeed in connecting the screen turn your monitor on and turn laptop on. I know you will say nothing happens on screen, and that's because you need to hold down on the "FN" or function key and press "F4" at the same time, only once. If Nothing happens try again. Know your monitor on laptop will shut off if the screen does turn on, it's normal. Please let me know if you have any luck!

You are going to have to replace your LCD screen. If you are technically astute, then there are instructions that I can send you... if not , then taking it to a shop would be your best bet.
