Question about Kitchen Ranges
The outermost layer of tempered glass on my oven door shattered (the explosion happened on the outermost layer facing inside of the oven door) into a million pieces after starting the broiler. The stove is only a year and a half old and I hardly use the oven portion! To replace the part with GE part: WB36M1207 is over $300! Do I have to go with their part? Can I order one on line with the same dimensions thats not for GE? I noticed that a lot of the ones on line are GE compatible just minus the fancy black outlining. Same thing happened to a neighbour and he bought a piece of tempered glass in town for way less and installed himself. GE is still trying to determine whether they will cover this as it is 4 months out of warranty...please help, I am financially strapped and can't afford this now.

let me understand, you p[lug in you oven and the broiler will automaticalle start??? not allowing you to cancel???? if that s the case unplug and remove the back panel from tyhe range, sound sas if the wire leading to the broil ignitor has shorted itself against the cabinet of the range itself, look for whiter braided wires at broiler hieght, chances arte they are hitting against hte cabinet right near the vent area.

The problem is that the holding screws that secure the glass in place were most likely OVER TIGHTENED.All the screws around the support holders of the glass have to be tightened just right and the glass can cool off without the pressure that makes it pop.

You will need a window pack, part number WB56T10152 which is not hard to replace. You should be able to order it right from GE, or an appliance repair firm can get it for you, often without extra shipping if they can combine it with other parts they need to order. Should set you back just over $100. You can remove your oven door to make it easier to work on. Use a little screwdriver to pull down the little square hole you will see on the top of the hinge opening on the frame of the oven on each side. That little metal part will lock the hinge open. Next, lift on the door and pull it toward you. The hinge actually stays with the door and lifts right out of the rectangular opening in the oven frame. Reverse procedure to reinstall repaired door.

Hi there folks It also happened to me, so after ringing rangemaster they said it can happen due to faults in the glass, unfortunately my warranity had run out and they wanted t charge a fortune to repair. so i had a look inside the door my self which is only four screws on the sides to remove the outer skin to find it was a single piece of ordinary toughend glass about 300mm x 300mm fixed in place with six clips like the ones you find one those glass picture frames, i got a new piece from me local glass merchants for less than £10 and it took only mins to fix job done, I hope this help someone and it my save you quite a bit of cash Cheers folks Markbricky
