Electric shock from an unplugged Nintendo wii - how is this possible

My husband was sorting out the power cables from our Nintendo WII when he received an electric shock from it. It was neither plugged into the wall or the console. Can anyone explain how this could have happened as the console had been unplugged for months.

It was probably just static electricity. Sometimes the body build up static electricity by just walking on a carpet or from friction of the clothes being worn. He then got the shock when he somehow grounded himself.

also, if the games you want to play are copied, like $5 games from asia, you will need a modchip to be installed in your console. if they are licensed real copies, you can buy a datel freeloader to make your wii region free

SOURCE: can we play gamecubegames inside the wii console, if so how?

You can do both. With internet you can download Nintendo 64 games on the wii shop channel. For game cube games enter the controller in slot one, enter the game and it's like you don't have a wii!

Note: due to the fact the the wii remote does not have enough buttons ALL N-64 games need a gamecube controller or a classical controller. Game Cube games are not compatible with classical controllers.

I have internet through cable.it runs through the sb5101u surfboard motorola modem. i bought the lan adaptor to go to the wii, for netflix, but it won't connect to the internet. error code 52020

Here is the solution from nintendo:

  1. Power off the Wii. Connect the official Nintendo Wii LAN adapter to the Wii, and insert a working ethernet cable into the official Nintendo Wii LAN Adapter.
  2. Unplug all devices from your modem. Most modems are unable to support more than one device at a time.
  3. Power cycle your modem. To do this, unplug the power from your modem and let it rest for 20 seconds. Plug the power back in. Connect the Ethernet cable from your Wii console to the Ethernet port on your modem.
  4. If the connection test fails, try a "Manual Setup" with the Wii console (how to), using your network's IP address, Default Gateway, Subnet Mask, and DNS information. To access these settings:
    1. On your PC, click "Start" and then "Run."
    2. Type "CMD" into the field that appears to open a new window.
    3. Type "IPCONFIG/ALL" and press "Enter" to display a list of internet settings, including the settings listed above. Input theseexactly as they're listed into the "Manual Setup" of the Wii console's internet connection.
  5. If you are still unable to connect and you are using broadband Internet, then your ISP likely uses PPPoE to establish a connection to their network. The Wii is not compatible with PPPoE. Contact your ISP for more assistance.

Tip

Reset your Wii Video Settings to the Default

One annoying thing about the Nintendo Wii is that there is no way to reset the video settings once you have changed them in the Nintendo Wii System Menu.

It will not detect which cables you are trying to use and just tries to use the last settings that you set it to.

So, if you have changed your Nintendo Wii from using the regular cables that came with the system to using component cables, then switch back to a TV using regular RCA cables (these are the yellow, red and white cables) then you need to reset the settings on your Nintendo Wii to the default video settings.

You can reset your Nintendo Wii video settings to use Composite (or RCA - Yellow, Red and White) cables by doing the following:

1. Make sure the Nintendo Wii is powered off and a red light is showing.

2. With the power off, unplug the video cables from the back of the Nintendo Wii, leave them plugged into your TV (these should be the RCA/Composite cables)

3. Press the Power button on the front of Nintendo Wii. Make sure the cables are still unplugged.

4. Keep the Nintendo Wii powered on and plug your cables back into it with it still running.

5. If all went well, the picture should appear normally now.

6. Once the picture has reappeared, you should go into the Nintendo Wii Menu (the Wii button in the bottom left hand corner) and change the display back to 480i to make the changes permanent.

I hope this tip helps!

Wii stopped working. the light is not on. There is a disk inside that won't eject. We tried unplugging and replugging everything. Could it just be the 3V battery ?

did the power go out while your Wii was plugged up and on or in sleep mode? if it was, you probably need to unplug you wii from everything and let it sit for a few minutes. your Wii probably just got 'shocked' by the sudden lack of a power source. If the power didnt go out, then I dont know how to help you~ Sorry. I hope I helped!! ^-^

    Connecting directly to a modem:

My wii just turned off! I was watching a movie n my TV and everything just sut off my TV came back on but my Wii is still off!!

Was there some sort of power surge? A lot of the time when the power shuts off and back on -- there was a power problem. When the power comes back on, it can send a higher voltage which can break certain components. The Wii AC Adapter is made to absorb the shock rather than the Wii taking the shock. Try plugging it out and back in. If that does not work, you'll need a new AC Adapter. You can find one for around $19, free shipping, at the following page:

My nintendo wii will not turn on

Unplug all of the cables from the Wii and the wall and TV and let it "rest" for 10 minutes. This is like a reset for the cables and, once you do this, it should work fine.
