My wireless icon displays as not connected even though I am currently surfing the net

It seems like my laptop is having error with "GCT WiMax Protocol Driver". I think because of this, my wireless icon on the taskbar displays as not connected *with the 'x' symbol* even though I am currently connected to the internet and happily surfing the web. p/s: I am using a P1 WiMax wifi connection

Al last, I am able to solve the problem. Since the problem was caused by an error in the protocol driver, my laptop keep on crash. So when it start, I enter the OS menu and do some diagnostic with my startup system. So my system automatically repair the error. However, there are some drawbacks using this method in which my internet proxy setting have been deleted. Again, I have to solve another problem. I exprole some options and ended up using system restore to a point far back before my driver went into an error state and voila! It all came back to normal. However, I still did a diagnostic test to make sure that everything runs smoothly. And that's it! All in all, thank you for all the suggestions. :)

SOURCE: Atheros Wireless connect problems

your wireless devices are not configure to the right value. Start the wireless network wizard in your desktop computer.(Start- Control Panel - Network and Internet Connections - Setup a wireless network for a home or small office) Follow the on-screen instructions. After finishing, run the wizard in the router and then run it in the devices that you want to connect to the network.

SOURCE: Website is too busy to show the webpage error

Seems that your browser's configuration is messed up by something else if you did not reconfigure it manually. This may be caused by a toolbar installed or a malware. What browser are you using? Are you using the same browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, etc) with your family? If you, check their browser's configuration against yours and see which one is different. Your browser should copy the settings of their functional browsers.

To check in Firefox:
1. Click Tool menu.
2. Click Options
3. Click the Advanced category (group)
4. Click the Network tab
5. Click the Settings button under the Connection group
6. Make sure "No proxy" is selected

In Internet Explorer:
1. Click Tools menu
2. Click Internet Options (Bottom)
3. Click Connection Tab
4. Click LAN Settings (bottom)
5. Make sure "Automatically detect settings" is checked

If these settings are already set and it is still not working, try to uninstall some "newly installed" browser toolbars or download and install Anti Malwarebytes to remove all malwares in your PC. You can download it free HERE.

I have a windows 8 gateway laptop(NE71B Series) and its seems as if my wifi switch is disable. Anyone with a bit of advice on how to resolve this problem would be very helpful.

Recently had a coworker bring me a Gateway NE71B laptop.
Complaint: No wireless even using a VZW 4GLTE hotspot.
Observations:
; All drivers and devices are functional with no errors or conflicts.
; Wireless adapter has power and is not in Airplane mode.
; No wireless networks are visible even though there are normally as many as 12 networks available within the area.
; Wired Ethernet adapter works without issues.
Solution:
Turns out the BIOS was v2.05. After updating the BIOS to v2.13, wireless connectivity is functional. All locally available wireless networks (SSIDs) are visible.

Notes of caution:
; A failed BIOS update will invalidate your warranty per Gateway chat support rep.
; Ensure you have a fully charged battery before updating the BIOS.
; Ensure your AC adapter is plugged in and functional prior to starting the BIOS updater.

How do I connect my Compaq Presario 62-231 to a wireless network?

Check the sides and front of the laptop to see if there is a wireless switch to turn on. If so, turn it on.

Also once the wireless switch is turned on there are keystrokes that can toggle the wireless on or off. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN function key located at the lower left of the keyboard, then hit the correct F1 thru F12 key that toggles the wireless. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit will have the wireless signal icon )))) on it. Or it might have the icon of a tower with the wireless signal icon )))). Normally the screen will display Wireless On or Wireless Off when you toggle the wireless.
