What is hp service mode?

Depending on which printer, it is a normally hidden menu to allow service technicians to change things like the total page count, or the serial number, or do some direct hardware diagnostics. the actual items that are accessible in the service menu are usually found in the service manual of the printer. but different HP printers have different level of service that can be accessed.

Hp blue screen says "entering setup ..." but it is locked up instead

ok, an A6512p0b PC desk top.
VISTA.
HP media kit,? a real kit not using home made kit? from HP.
New HDD causes the F11 key to go dead (or F10 older PC)
F11/10, is the VIRTUAL install CDs/
HP put the install CDs in its own hidden install partition.
making the f10/11 key run that virtual CD installer.

now you have a new HDD, and guess what, all that is gone.
so step 2 is what, REAL MEDIA KIT. from HP.

HP has a huge pages on this, every step every way possible to restore, at hp.com ever see HP.com?

what worries me is this statement by you/'
"but cannot open BIOS." this is serious all screens must work.

you can remove the HDD and CD drives and BIOS always works
BIOS IS IN ROM, it always works or it has very very serious problems if it is DEAD. BIOS DEAD.
the screen is not dead, you see its works.
like:
  1. PSU bad.
  2. CPU overheating or heat sink bad or fell off.
  3. memory bad, try 1 stick at a time?
  4. other things plugged in to mobo that are shorted..
  5. mobo bad.
  6. GPU card bad or has problems if it has one. see #4
  7. desktops can have lots of things added, i cant see yours. inside/.

the correct kits are from HP, here.
comes with all drivers, and all HP apps. and is turn key.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07143

there are other ways to do this, using MS disks and long day of work.
ill not teach that here.

Try this.
Make sure it has power (ejects). Check Device Manager in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Right click My Computer > Manage. Select Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices. Now delete all DVD/CD-ROMs and reboot. Windows will say "New Hardware Found" and install. Check BIOS by pressing F key (correct F key is noted during boot) and make sure BIOS see's the Optical Drive.

The usb ports are not detecting keyboard, mouse or thumb drive. usb root hub and usb controller are working properly.

Go into the BIOS and to the "Security" Menu and then to a"Device Security". You will see that "All USB Ports" says "Hidden"; same for "SMBUS". Arrow down to them, hit the right arrow to make them available and press F10 to accept. Go back to the "File" menu and press F10 once again to accept changes. USB ports should not work.

1st method identfy bios when start up " AWARD BIOS, AMI BIOS,etc etc below some backdoor passwords try these first
Award BIOS' :

AWARD_SW, j262, HLT ,SER,SKY_FOX,BIOSTAR,ALFAROME,Lkwpeter,j256,
AWARD?SW,LKWPETER,syxz,ALLy,589589,589721,awkward,CONCAT,d8on,CONDO,j64,

For AMI BIOS' try these backdoor passwords:

AMI,BIOS,PASSWORD,HEWITT RAND,AMI?SW,AMI_SW,LKWPETER,A.M.I.,CONDO.

2nd method: remove the laptop battery, and in back of your laptop 3 to 4 screws showing small keybord pictured or keyboard mark, remove those screw's, turn front and 3 little hidden clips upside of keyboard, slide down those clips, carefully remove the keyboard, in motherborad near touchpad, locate the small silver color coin battery, remove that battery for 1 minite or 2. and put it back. your password will reset. and also bios resets to factory setting.( before resetting just write down the setting on paper) best of luck keep smiling. aaarwind

Same problem in HP dv6040ca

Firstly, the system configuration is normally in management menu or similair on your programmes menu. If not you will find that the bios menu in most laptops are basic and normally the main settings are hidden; you will need to speak to HP Technical for assistance in that. There is no reason to not be able to upgrade to XP Pro; but with an upgrade you would need to keep your original XP Home installation, otherwise you will need to completely install XP Pro firsly using the format option when you insert the Windows disc. As with most laptops all programmes and drivers are usually on a seperate partition on your hardrive, so be aware you are going to lose all this when formatting, so back up all files and settings. You may also have restore discs, if this being the case all programmes and operating system will be on them, so no need to worry about losing anything from your hardrive apart from your documents. Why do you need to dissable SATA?
