Question about GE Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

I have a GE electric Range model JBS55M M2BS. The touchpad went out. I ordered a replacement part from GE and installed it and it still will not come on. The stovetop burners will work but I have no control over the oven.

Is this the control you replaced? It is the oven control. If not, you will need to replace it.

yes.... that is the part I replaced. The touchpad still will not light up... no oven controls, clock etc. The stovetop still works so it must be getting electric.

Check the temp probes Ohms. It should read 1100 Ohms.

I don't mess with electric too much... I know where the probe is but the tester I have only shows volts. Would this part give reason for the entire touchpad not to light up?? I don't have a clock, oven control or anything else lit up on the touchpad. The electric is coming into the new touchpad but it still will not light!!!

SOURCE: Oven burner doesn't light

Replaced the ignitor on mine 10 mins ago.... Works like it's brand new. You have to remove the bake pan in the bottom of the stove, remove the drawer, and the sheet metal shield protection the connection. Entire job was 10 mins.

SOURCE: Frigidaire Range control panel DEAD

We tested the EOC and it will indeed need a replacement. Also, just a couple weeks prior we ran the "clean" mode on the oven as did another poster who experienced the "pop" and loss of the control board/oven function, but still had stove top function.

SOURCE: LG Electric Range Oven Keeps Shutting Off

When you say "Just shut off" do you mean the circuit breakers would trip, or fuses would blow? If so, I would have an electrician check that the circuit is properly fused/breakered and wire sized for the amount of power required by the oven. If the installation directions say it needs a 50 amp service, it better be a 50 amp service.
If shutting off is just something within the oven, then get LG back out again, and let us know of what they say is wrong.

HOW DO I CHANGE OUT THE TOUCHPAD FOR JNM1731DPBB

I'd suggest you contact Matt Fadorsen at eM-Ka Ventures in Chesterland, Ohio. He just repaired my GE keypad on a Model JVM2070CH02 microwave (GE doesn't make just the membrane keypad available--you have to purchase the entire control panel ($548.00 through a local parts distributor). Matt's turnaround from the time I removed the keypad to the time I re-installed it was only 8 days--and it only cost me $100, which included the return shipping. I'm sold on Matt!

GE JBP90 Electric Range - keypad not working

Hi-  If everything worked when stored, problem could be simple. The keypad is linked to the computer with a ribbon connector. The plug may have gotten corroded a bit in storage. Try this first: Unplug power. Remove back panel to access control. Remove four screws holding control. Unplug and inspect connector. Clean with a toothbrush and compressed air if you have it. Plug connector back in, re-assemble, and see if touchpad works.  Let me know if this info helps.  Have more if needed. - Ed
