Question about Philips 43PP9202 43" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Repeated convergence problem or something new?

I have had my 43PP9202 for 3 years now and back in October 2006 I started experiencing these strange green and red hour glass figures on the screen after the set had been turned on for a minute. You could turn the set off for a second and turn it back on and the colored swirls in the picture would dissappear. That is until you turned the set on again the next day and it would start all over. I finally called a local repairman and had him come to my house and replace 2 convergence ICs (STK392-110). I have had no problems since this until just the other morning, the picture began to show the same green and red hour glass across the screen. Since I had dealt with this issue before, I turned the set off and turned it back on. I tried this several times and each time the set came back on with the same exact distortion on the screen. Frustrated, I left the room, determined to listen to the show that was on even without the clear picture. When I came back into the room, the screen was blank but the sound was still coming strong from my surround sound receiver. I did not think to see if the sound was coming out of the actual television speaker. I have since plugged the set back in to see what it would do and I get no picture, no sound, and a slight ticking noise from the back. Any direction you can give me that does not include taking a loan out to get a repair man back out here would be mostly appreciated (especially by my eyes, it's hard to read my guide channel on a 19 inch set).

Re: Repeated convergence problem or something new?

Call the shop and see what the warranty repair on the last repair is,the convergence ic must have shorted again and now the set went into shut down to protect itself.

50H13 Red Convergence Problem

Yes, it could be from the convergence amp having a loose connection. Big Screen tv's have problems with loose connection especially when moved or bumped. If you can take back off and find convergence amps then safely tap on ic's and see if it changes picture then it's maybe just aloose conn. If no change then you need to check resistors inline to red. At the most replace IC's these are the large STK's by a heatsink. Hope this helps!

Color convergence "whacked out"/blue shadow to right side

Your TV most likely has a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Mits 55908 Convergence problem

Good Day, John;
It sounds like the Convergence IC's have poor solder connections, by re-soldering the convergence output IC's should solve your problem. The IC's are large and mounted to large silver "heat sink" with STK 392 # on them. Good Luck, big IRISH.

Intermittent convergence (IC?) problem

Can be bad solder connections on IC pins, but intermittent
conditions can damage IC's, so we usually replace because
the labor to get the board out is the same ..........Three to five

Converange chip-Where can I order one

This is very strange coincedence it seems the more I search this problem the more people I am finding with the same issue. This morning Aug 3 2007 I turned on our Panasonic PT-47WX42C to find this convergence problem! (distorted colours-off alignments) I, like yourself Hultsie would love to get the schematic diagram for our unit and change out the IC(s) myself. If we work together I believe we can accomplish this task! Please contact me at if you would like to give this a go! I certainly will try to exhaust all avenues before I part with hundreds of dollars for something I know I can service myself. Oh, the defective IC(s) will more than likely have the values you need written on top of the chip...once you know the ones that need changing your local tv repair or even panasonic (if there close by) will sell them to you.
