Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Total power loss during use

I installed this microwave 2 days ago. It is an over the range model Tappan TMV151FS. I was warming a frozen entree for 12 minutes and 5-6 minutes in to the cycle the unit totally powered down. I checked the outlet and there was still electric available. After about 20-25 minutes the unit came back on (not running but the display lit up). So I set the cooking timer for 6 minutes and after 3:32 minutes it powered down again. After 27 minutes it powered up again.

The kicker is that this is the 2nd one I have had do the same thing. The last one started doing this after 6 days.

Is there a problem in how I have installed the unit or some install instruction missing in the install manual? It heats fine when it runs but this problem is not acceptable. Any ideas?

Check the voltage on the outlet, make sure it is 115v -- 122volts max, any less will cause it shut off, make sure the polarity off the outlet is correct and it is grounded, check all of your wiring connections, if all this is ok replace unit with a different unit or different supplier of unit

"SE" means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

The most economical repair (and a pretty simple one) is to replace your entire controller assembly.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Model TMV151FBA is black and model TMV151FSA is white.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

You would order one of these here:

5304456080 Control Box, assembly, black $145.14
5304456081 Control Box, assembly, white $149.42

Tappan over range has no heat!

You have a bad high voltage diode, bad filter capacitro or a bad magnatron. The diode and capacitor does not cost very much. You can get them at . Replacement would mean removing the unit from under the counter, remove the case. Locate the diode and capacitor. They should be near the power section and the diode is attached to the chassis and one side of the filter capacitor. After replaceing both parts if the unit will not heat you would need a new magnatron. The part is fairly expensive but depending on the cost of your unit it may pay to replace it. Let me know if you need anymore help.

Tappan TMV151FS over range microwave starts to work and then dies

Never run the microwave without a load (something to heat)!!! That kills the microwave generating parts.

Sounds like a 'thermal' protect switch is activating after running. Make sure that (if the unit is mounted in a cabinet) that there is sufficient space around the unit for proper air flow and that nothing is blocking the vents. Try setting it on a counter top and heat something. If it works properly and doesn't shut off, the venting space is the problem. You may have to have the cabinet that it sits in redesigned for more clearance.
