Question about Washing Machines

GE Frontloader washer door won't open.

We have a GE WBVH6240 front-loading washing machine. I just washed a load but before it finished, all of the panel lights went off except the "door lock" light. That light is blinking and we are unable to open the door. We have reset the cycle three times, which works okay until about half way through when the door light starts blinking. Does anyone have a suggestion?

If door is locked with START/PAUSE blinking, press
START/PAUSE two times to unlock the door.

Also try this,
Remove the front service panel and drain the tub using the drain plug.
Clean the filter and make sure it is not clogged with anything.
Then reset washer and try to run it through a complete cycle.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The door will not open if the machine senses that there is still water inside. Should this hold true, what would be required is to drain the water manually and/or check/clean the drain system. There should be a bottom/kick panel that could either be held in place by locking tabs or screws underneath. Upon removal, you would then have access to the bottom of the drum/tub and the drainage system. Check/clean the filter, sump/bowl, impeller, pump/motor, drain valve and hose (kinks). Since the door locking mechanism is activated by the presence of water in the drain area, it is important then that the water be completely removed. You may need to spray compressed air to ensure this.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYA.

This is one of the most frustrating faults to get, especially if your clothes are stuck inside the washing machine. Lots of people force the door open out of frustration and cause extra expense. There are many reasons why the door may be jammed shut -

  1. The water hasn't pumped out properly and the washing machine has a pneumatic door safety lock (a rubber hose connected to the door interlock and connected to a pressure chamber bottle on the tub - water forces air up this tube and locks the door) Washing machine won't empty water
  2. The water has pumped out properly, but a blockage of gunge inside the pressure chamber bottle is trapping the air that's operating the door lock (if a pneumatic lock is fitted - not many have these days due to cost cutting)
  3. Door interlock jammed
  4. Door catch, handle, or mechanism broken
  5. ****** (a device that detects the motion of the drive belt fitted to many older Hotpoint washing machines which "pecks" at the belt when the door handle or button is operated) is broken or has fallen off
Do not take the lid off and reach inside the washing machine to try and release the door if the washing machine is still plugged in as you will be electrocuted.....

Washing machine door broken (or) hinge brokenThis is more common than ever. In particular, Hotpoint doors, Indesit doors and Hoover doors are always breaking. Also the door hinges break on these washing machines. The washing machine door and washing machine hinges are easy enough to replace.
You can buy a washing machine door or washing machine door hinge from 4Washerhelp washing machine and appliance spares(The UK's biggest spares and accessories database)

This type of interlock cannot be repaired and quite simply have to be
broken loose from behind the front cabinet, and replaced. With the power
isolated you need to remove the top cover and put your hand down behind the
front panel to where the door lock is located (directly behind the hole where
the door catch enters the cabinet). The door catch then has to be prised away
from the front of the cabinet until the door opens or the interlock breaks.

    There are two ways to get the door open;
    1. Pry it - this is what most the people end up doing. It actually wont hurt anything. Just teh latch at the most.

    2. Remove top of washer and reach inside to pull latch from inside.

We have a Whirlpool 7KG frontloader washing machine (6th sense) model AWM8121. The problem is that the door light is flashing, the cycle has stopped at rinse (rinse light is on) and the machine is not...

We have an awm8121 and there seems to be a fault on the Spin cycle indicators with th 0 RPM and the 800 RPM flashing..

We can't seem to get the frontloader to finish the drain cycle and continue into the next was.

The last load of washing was still saturated when we managed to open the door.

My question is; the washer,model,wbvh6240 has any filter

No , all new front loads have a self cleaning filter. Therefore nothing needs to be emptied or clean. The little trap door in front of the washer is to drain it in case of a power failure when the washer is full of water. .

Door gasket leaking

My GE washer model wcvh6400j0ww was leaking too. The repair person thought the same thing the gasket. It turned out to be the water in-let pipe (WH41X10118 and you will need seal WH41X10119) and not the gasket. He ordered the gasket and took machine apart to replace and found cracked pipe. Take your machines front off and make sure it is the gasket leaking. Good Luck,

My GE Front load washer (WBVH6240) has an odor that smells like mildew in it. If the is left closed the odor is really bad. Do you know how to fix this or what is comes from?

run a empty cycle with bleach on whites/ sanitize. clean boot (rubber gasket at door) with bleach or other cleaner inside especially at bottom, make sure 3 holes at bottom are clear.
this may take multiple cycles to rid of odor.
For maintenance, you should wipe excess water from boot after last load, and check lower drain holes. Once a month wipe boot with windex or other. and run cleaner cycle (empty) newer machines have a special clean washer cycle. (6240 doesnt).
Also clean your drain pump filter at bottom front behind access panel.
If boot is really bad , replace.
