you need to know what motherboard you have. If you download a free program called Belarc and install it it will give you all the information about your pc. Once you know what motherboard you have then just google it and see what cpu's are compatible.

Well you can change with te compatible motherboard but it will not be giving you the exact performance and it is risky to replace laptop motherboard with another motherboard. Try to replace it with the original vendor because there are brands which says that these are compatible but often they are not compatible to each other so i will advice you to go for the original vendor and not for the other vendor.

In the manual of your motherboard you can see what memosticks suported and compatible on the motherboard
If you dont have the manual but know the name of the motherboard you can find same info on the producers site
