Question about Washing Machines

Roper washing machine agitates but will not drain or spin

Washing machine will fill and agitate but then stops suddenly before getting to the rinse cycle. We manaually drained the machine and verified the hose is not clogged. We then turned the machine to the rinse cycle where the machine filled again and agitated then suddenly stopped again. We manually drained the machine again and turned the machine to spin. It will not spin. It does not make any sort of noise. It simply will not do anything. We tried sticking a pair of pliers into the lid switch but it resulted in nothing as well. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Is there a way to test the switch? We tried sticking something in there but it still would not work.

The lid switch was indeed the problem. However the replacement switch was about 1 1/2 inches too short therefore it kept coming unplugged. We had to splice it with some extra wire from the old one to make it long enough to work. Thanks again Tom for all your help!

Its your lid switch. it cant spin til that switch is closed, and they break all the time.its thru that hole where the lid seats on the top of the washer.also some times the switch actuator on the lid breaks, but not as offten.inspect that area and you will see issue.you can cut and connect the wires underthere in a pinch[there are three wires to the lid switch.dont connect the green ground its the other two]but you must be careful if you have children they will be curious and lift the lid and it wont stop spinning,so if they reach in with there arm, their has been cases of arms being torn of from spinning tub.how this helps God bless ,tom

thanks for that great rating.i think though you had installed the switch incorectly, because if will not be too short.the only problem you could have is if you got the old style wire harness connector.and then if i ,i would splice out connector harness to old.i have had to do that many a times

Roper washing machine does not fill for rinse cycle. Goes directly to rinse agitate without water.

Without Model number I am only guessing but I suspect you have a blocked sensing tube that travels from the Level selector switch to the side of the tub somewhere. It is possible for this plastic tube to become partially clogged and not allow trapped air to vent when tub is drained of water. Usually this problem manifests itself as an overflow of the tub. Check the full length of this clear hose and see if the end nearest the tub looks like it may have debris or dirty detergent clogging it.

This hose is pushed onto a nipple mounted to a reservoir on the side of the tub. Push a thin copper wire 4-5 inches into the those after removing from nipple and also down into the nipple an inch or two before reinstalling the hose to the nipple. You MIGHT even blow into the hose while you have it off and you SHOULD hear a clicking sound coming from the level selector switch body.

Good Luck. Come back with Model number under lid if that doesn't help.

My 5 year old Roper washing machine fills up, washes/agitates the cloths, drains them when the washer get to the rinse line to start the rinse cycle it stops, and all I hear is a humming. The machine will...

I'm not familiar with roper washing machines so I'll ask the question does it have two fill hoses. Most European machines now only have one fill. If it has two then it sound like the machine takes the initial water from the one fill and the rinse cycle water from another. The humming sounds like the valve for the other fill needs replacing. These are quite inexpensive and easy to fit. Power off.. remove lid ....switch of water...take out valve when you establish which one is affected and replace

My wahser just stopped working it filled with water and then started agitating and then all the sudden stopped please help

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water

The washing machine will fill and agitate but then stops...will not continue and water will not drain. When putting it on spin, rinse, anything, it just agitates then stops.

Will fill and drain, not agitate or spin though

I am having the exact same problem with the same brand machine.  I put in a load of clothes to soak till the morning, but in the morning, the washing machine would only fill, spin, and drain.  The agitator would not wash the clothes, so they came out with the soap of course still crusted in.

If the agitator does not spin at all, then it is your motor coupling. If the agitator tries to spin but cannot, then it is your dog agitators.

    Washer problems

if it wont drain , check your lid switch, check out your motor coupler, if it will not agitate and spin, replace your motor coupler, if it agitates and dont spin, replace your lid switch.

alot of times the washer will drain but we hurriedly cut it off when we hear noise or the water is out but it never spinned and so the clothes are soapy wet...
