Ice maker door

The solenoid that operates your ice flap needs to be replaced. You can get it at the linked site below.

Kennmore refrigerator is not making ice,but water

The control light flashes to indicate the infrared beam is being blocked. The flap on the opposite side blocks the beam when the door is open to prevent ice from being dropped on the floor rather than in the ice bin. If you pushe the flap in so it's flush with the liner (use care not to block the hole) the light should go from flashing to on in a steady state. If not, your electronics are bad and would need to be replaced. If the light does glow steady, then the problem is with your ice maker, water valve or ice maker fill tube.

Icemaker not working- red light flashes constantly

The red light should flash twice , pause then flash twice constantly . If you close the flap on the left side , then the light should go off . This shows the optics (ice maker cut off ) are good .

Check the black tube ( fill tube ) , which puts water into the ice maker , to see if it is iced inside . If so , then the water valve behind the refrig is bad . It seeps into the tube and freezes , blocking the water flow .

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps , then the water valve needs replaced . If it doesn't dump , and stays frozen in the ice maker , replace the ice maker . Also , make sure the coils under the front of the refrig are clean , as this will cause warmer temp in the freezer and the ice maker needs 5 degrees to operate .

No water to the ice maker

The light (receiver) , should light twice , pause , 2 times , pause , and so on . If you close the left flap (emiter) , the light should go off . This is normal operation for the optics .

Check the black tube (fill tube ) , above the ice maker , to be sure it is not iced inside , blocking water flow . If it is , then the water valve needs to be replaced , due to seeping ( not closing completely ) . Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps , and the black tube is clear , replace the water valve . If the ice maker does not dump , and the frozen cubes stay in the ice maker , then replace the ice maker . Also , check the coils under the refrig , to make sure they are clean from dust , lint , pet hair , etc .

Ice flap door won't close - Freezer and ice maker frost up

Every time you use the ice dispensor , when the flap opens , cold air will fall inside the enclosed dispensor cover . This cold air , mixed with the warm outside air , produces moisture inside the cover . After so long , this moisture starts turning to rust , causing the solenoid and plunger to rust . G E has no "fix" for this problem yet . My suggestion , would be to drill holes in the bottom of the dispensor enclosure (white plastic enclosure , held on by 4 screws ) at certain points , so that the cold air will fall thru the cover , instead of staying in the enclosure . This is something I have to try on customers refrigerators for a while , before I send this Idea to G E . To answer your question , yes , I is normal to replace every couple of years ,.....for now anyway .
