SOURCE: what carat gold is number

it doesn't mean carat. I think it is the size of the battery that is installed in the watch.

I'm buying a necklace and pendant that says platinum plated and 14 K gold is it real and what does platinum plated mean

14 k and platinum plated are just words to make junk jewellery look more expensive
real gold is stated in C not k as the word is spelt carat
platinum is a precious metal but when used with the letter K it indicates that what you are looking at buying will have very little value in real terms

I have antique womans gold nugget bulova watch with 014ko and 890643 on the back of the watch should I throw this away

Don't throw it away! Bulova have a good reputation. It ma not be worth much, but you have the serial number and the 14k probably means it's 14 carat gold. 14 carat old is the highest quality used for watches (18 carat is too soft for everyday wear) I used to work for Shackman and we made watch cases and bracelets for the major brands such as Omega.

Trysearching for Bulova watches on eBay then looking at 'completed listings' under 'advanced' after you search for some idea of value.

Regards, Andy

If I buy a Longines 10K gold filled watch, what is the difference between that and solid 10K gold? and is there a big difference in the price of 10K gold filled per gramme and solid

Gold filled is simply a very thin layer applied to the base metal case and will wear off over time. Solid 10K gold is an alloy that is mixed with gold throughout and will always retain it's color and never wear off. The solid 10K gold case contains a lot more gold than then the gold filled version and will cost more up front. However, the gold filled case will look awful in a year or two while the solid 10K case will last as long as you keep the watch and beyond.

How can you get into a sovereign ladies watch to change the battery, does the back come off or the glass ? the back doesn't seem removable. its diameter is 20 mm and its 9 carat gold. bracelet and watch

You have to pull stem out of watch movement completely and then remove watch glass. Sovereign watch cases are monoblock, so, the only way to get into it is to remove the glass. Rate me, plz.
