Timer on Whirlpool AWM 243-500

I need a timer. Where to buy?

This is a VERY late reply, just got a mail from fixya today so I visitited the site. Discovered a lot of suggestions on the problem with the Whirlpool washing machine we have.
I was able to find new spare parts in CebuCity. First I bought the timer, but that was not the problem, it was the timer switch on the door. Such a small item, but such a lot of smoke.
After exchanging the timer, all worked fine.
Now I saved the timer, in cast it should get any defects in the future. Thanks anyway all of you for the suggestions!. :D

Thanks Donald, I'll write an check with these guys. The timer burned when starting the machine, it burned so well that the entire machine was filled with smoke. So no doubt that is is out of order :-) But the machine is not well used, since we use it a few times a year when we are at our vacation house.

no magic to it, but double check your wire harness and make sure it is plugged in all the way. it is sometimes easier to plug the harness in before mounting the timer to the control panel.

  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

SOURCE: How do you remove the timer on a Whirlpool washer

You have to unscrew the knob and remove the screws that are under it, some have just a center nut with a locating tab that goes into a hole to hold it straight.

If the timer and lid switches are funtional and the machine is filling and shutting off correctly that only leaves the motor. Have the motor tested or replace it. Even though the timer is running it is possible that it is still at fault. If you have access to another timer try switching them to make sure it isn't the timer. This does sound like a faulty motor and I would start with that assumption.

SOURCE: Kenmore series 70 model 110 82376810, timer know

Appliance parts places don't stock the timers because they hardly ever go bad. Troubleshoot first! .I am not a repair professional. I am a 78 year old man
who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. So the washer or dryer ID doesn't mean much to me. I came to fixya looking for a schematic for an really old AM/FM radio and found that more than 4,700 people were asking for help with a washer repair. I recently had a washer repair of my own and at that time I found an excellent video which showed me how to take my machine apart. This video made it possible for me to do my own repair. If you are repairing a dryer or a front load washer I suggest you go to where they have very good step by step trouble shooting and repair information on washers and dryers as well as other appliances. If you have a direct drive top load washer and need help taking it apart this video is an early christmas present. I was so impressed with it that when I saw all these people needing help, I wanted to tell them about it. If you look at the back of your washer and the panel is solid (no small inspection plate to remove which would indicate you have a v-belt drive) chances are you have a direct drive and this video is just what you need. You can see it at You will probably still need help in determining what the trouble is and how to fix it. After viewing the video or if you have a v-belt drive rather than a direct drive, I suggest you go to where they have very good
trouble shooting and repair nformation on most
washers and dryers. I think you'll find what you need
there. Don't worry about the timer, they hardly ever
go bad. Good luck with it. If I have helped you, please rate my advice on fixya.

Sounds like you may have developed a bad spot in your timer. Easy enough to replace and you can probably get one fairly cheap on eBay. If it was the water level sensor, advancing the timer manually wouldn't work.

Soon as i set cycle and swich on door light flashes open

The cycle doesn't advance
When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Thanks for your question.

Not finnishing cycle AWM 8121 washing machine

Can you manually advance it through all the steps of the cycle? If so, you can live with it until you replace the little timer motor. (I once carved a tiny wooden gear to replace a tiny nylon gear on the timer, and that worked fine for another 20 years.) If not, then I'd say the control unit needs replacing.
