Remote works but TV does not receive

The factory remote quit communicating with television, it works the other devices. Maybe code was lost? How often does the receiving eye on television fail?

  • Anonymous Jan 26, 2009

    How do I change rating?

  • ibrokedown Jan 26, 2009

    Thanks.

I think I will buy the part and install it.

    Thanks again.

I have the same problem, but the model is the 42LC7D. How hard is it to replace the IR sensor?

  • sciatec May 15, 2009

    Exactly same symptom here too.

By the way what's the part number?

Where can I find the right part?

The link below seems not working anymore.

    Thanks.

The IR reciever failure rate on LG tv's is fairly high. A few things to try first.

  1. Clean the IR window on the TV.
  2. Fresh batteries in remote(even though it works other devices)
  3. If you have a universal remote, program it to the tv for testing puposes.

Yes you can replace the IR sensor but first you should make sure the tv will not work with a universal remote.
If you can't get it to work with a universal then we will need to narrow it down to the sensor, it could be a voltage problem from the power supply.
It's a process of elimination, if you skip a step you could end up buying parts you don't need.

BTW, a Thanks For Trying rating is negative, it hurts my rating here.
The ratings are confusing but you can change it.
Let me know about the universal remote and we can go to the next step.

Sorry I just caught the part about the universal not working.

I will download the servixe manual and we can start checking voltages.
You will need to buy a cheap multimeter and take the back cover off of the tv.

  • Jason Morris Jan 26, 2009

    Thanks for the rating change.

If you are up to the challenge I can pull you into a  chat where we can start checking voltages and make sure it is the IR sensor and not the power supply.

Or if you just want to swap out the sensor you can buy it for $10 plus S&H and that will probably fix it.

Here is a link to the part.

Not anymore. go to a tv repair shop and look for an older universal or maybe an original. the new ones won't work on this old stuff. however it might be your I.R. receiver failed. but i have seen this quite a bit lately. if it is more than 10 yrs, old there is a problem with some mfg. codes. and nec doesn't make tv's anymore.

Not receiving commands from the remote. (Panasonic Panasonic CT-34WX54 HDTV)

Sometimes remotes have a switch to select tv,vcr,or cable, amke sure the remote is in the tv mode, other than that rare but remote receiver go bad and they have to be replaced, but before you call for assistance make sure the remote is communicating with the TV.It could be still good with other devices and not with the set.
