i know about the black slots but even with just in the black slots it said my ram is pc2-5300. not the pc2-8500. but they were not on the QVC list at asus. i have been thru the bios changing it to 1066mhz but it still comes up 667mhz which is the lowest dimms supported on this motherboard.

From the Asus website - "DDR2 1066MHz DIMMs work only on the black slots for one DIMM perchannel. Ensure to install the DDR2 1066MHz DIMMs ONLY on the BLACKslots!"

Your motherboard only has two black slots. You can install larger capacity sticks of RAM in those slots, but you can only use two. Most likely you are getting the incorrect reading because you have four installed.

Why cant i get my 4x 2gb ddr2 800 to work on my asus p5qc mobo? it will run fine with just 4gb 2x ddr2 800 but when i add the other 2x ram i get black screen at boot

Be sure to check which slots you are putting them in, stay within the same colors as to which needs to be put in.

This may be why, looks like your using DDR2
DDR2 1066MHz DIMMs work only on the black slots for one DIMM per channel. Ensure to install the DDR2 1066MHz DIMMs ONLY on the BLACK slots!

This may be the case for all speeds of DDR2

4 1024mb 1066 ddr2 only running at 667

Yes if all the sticks of ram are not the same it will downgrade the faster sticks to match.
1.Buy two sticks to match the faster ones
2.Id run 4 at 667 personally, if you multitask it might be best.

ASUS Asus P5QC Motherboard

Hello edwardfuller:

Do the same as you did, only this time remove all plug in boards and if there is anything connected to the mother board such as extra fans, speakers, and so on, remove all.
The board will detect any shorts, or overloads or problems in cards and so on , and will not turn on.

If it still will not work, check your memory sticks.
Remove all memory and place one at a time in the first slot, and then proceed to turn on and test.
By elimination, you can find the problem.
If all fails, then something may be wrong with the mother board.
take care, hope this will help,
