If its reading some disks but cannot read others that means the lens is working but its weak and is at the end of its life.it reads the disks recorded at higher X and cannot read lower X discs.its definately a weak lens problem.just get the lens replaced to solve this problem for sure. you can rate the solution if it helps u.

There are sometimes compatibility problems between DVD +R and -R. I assume you are trying to play something recorded on a computer. Very possibly you have run into that problem. I would suggest getting the recording either on a -R or recorded on a +r on a different computer.

Hi there
Its a firmware fault that could be causing the problem, you can download latest firmware from the DVD's website, burn it to CD and flash the firmware of the DVD player.
If that doesn't work, then lens has a fault.

Good luck

Sorry to break it to you, but this is not new.
there are many reported incidents like this, and it ends up with unit replacement with a more reliable one.
a good possibility as to the source of the problem, is a failure in the power circuits.
dont know how good are your skills with electronics, but i believe the best option is to aquire a new unit.

If you are getting a no disc error with all the recordable discs you will need to replace the lens of the device.

Hi,

If you have already cleaned the player try different dvd. If not than probably the lens is not working.

Its better to call a technician and get the lens checked.

Regards

If cleaning with a cd cleaner did not solve it , then you need to take apart the unit (with power unplugged) and access and clean the lens directly, using soft cotton tips and isopropyl alcohol.

If that still does not work, then you need to replace the lens pickup inside the unit.

Sounds like you have a faulty lens, the lens would need to be replaced or the whole drive, its easyer and sometimes cheaper to buy a new drive.

The player will read dvd but will not play cd

Richard: This is what EHow.com said: "
  • Turn on the DVD player. It generally takes a few seconds to get going. Take out the DVD if there's one in the drive already.
  • 2 Make sure the disc isn't scratched or dirty. Use a soft rag to clean the disc if you see any smudges. Insert the CD into the DVD player's disc drive and close it.
  • 3 Press the "Play" button on the DVD player or remote control. Some DVD players will begin reading the disc automatically. Pushing the button works just as well.
  • 4 Use the "Scene Selection" buttons on your remote to select a track. Some DVD players have odd ways of ordering the buttons on the remote. You might have to play around a bit before you find all the right buttons to work the CD playing function of your machine.
  • 5 Crank it up and enjoy your music. The DVD player will act just like a CD player and play the tracks of the CD through the TV.

Sony dvd player dvp- ns 90v does not read the dvd or cd

    Hi,

Good day. If your dvd player cannot read the dvd you can do these steps:

    1. Check wires and connection. ( but i guess you already know this )
    2. Check if the dvd has some scratch or lines
    3. Try to clean the dvd with a smooth cloth. ( works for me all the time )
    4. Check if other dvd is working to isolate if this is a dvd issue or a dvd player issue.
    5. If you have a dvd lens cleaner you can use that as well.( This one of the best way to resolve your issue )

Note: if other dvd are working fine then we might conclude that specifc dvd is already been damage. But if all dvd is not working you might have it check up by a sony tech for proper diagnosis.

Hope this information will be helpful to you. Thanks for using Fixya and have a great day

DVD player will not recognize any DVDs I put into player. I even took top off and cleaned laser eye and still does not play. Now red light is on in place of green power light. What's up with this thing?...

No disc error can be a DIY like the following steps.

Assuming that the disc is good.

Since you've already done the #1 now proceed to #2.

1.Cleaning the lens. - Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc.

Try clean the lens by soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.

2.Replacing the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser.

If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.

3.Checked the motor - Check the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.

Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin.

Bad motor - reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.

Hint : 50% of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.

If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.

If you already cleaned the lens, and confirmed that the ribbon is good as well as the motor then I

    Panasonic DVD-S35 Player H02 problem

Hi, this is an unfortunate error. this is referring to the lens assembly. it is unable to scan and read at this moment. it could be because the lens is dead or, it could be that the lens is simply dirty and will need to be cleaned. i would try cleaning it with a non brush type cleaning process. Once cleaned and you still have the same issue, i recommend replacing the lens assembly.

The problem you have is that of the roller of the dvd player. The roller is one the moving back and port bringing the lense set,the roller is dirt already the grease thier is hardened already. Its needs to clean so that performance will come again.By using a lighter fluid to clean and lense is wipe by a cotton with no chemical use. When you do this your player will read again.

Toshiba tech support for this one. If it is not accepting the cleaner disk - you have to wonder if something is already intere or do you mean will not rune the disk? Inwhich case it is a drive failure and needs replacement[of drive if available] or whole machine. Contact Toshiba first though it may be a known issue.
