Troubleshoot the downdraft fan (by 3 users)

the hood is in the up position and wont go back down. the fan motor also won't go on. I can hear a noice when it is plugged in but am not sure what it is, its more like its locked in place. i though about ordering a replacement swithch assy up/down but am not sure that is the problem? any suggestions
I have the same problem.
