Epson CX5300 can't find how to change ink cartridge

The smart menu does not let me ask about printing. I want to remove a defective black cartridge...but can't get to commands to move the ink cartridges to the correct position. Why is there no printer utility?

Thanks for your help. I'm hoping to get directions on how to change the ink cartridges. I'm looking at the Genuine Epson Stylus box for the magenta ink cartridge (TO423) which lists the C82 / Cx5100 and CX5300. I'm in the Philippines...so the source may be Australia, or Singapore, because of those countries are listed on the box.

I will recommend FixYa to my friends...because I got some very helpful answers on my own level...straight talk. Thanks again.

Epson do not list a CX5300 on either their USA or Europe website, only the CX5200 and CX5400. Can you confirm the model number and country of purchase?

See the CX5300 manual at

http://support2.epson.net/manuals/english/spc/styluscx5300/REF_G/INDEX.HTM

which seems to provide decent instructions on cartridge changing. Also, Epson are starting to introduce a self-help system - see

http://self-help.epson.net/gcb/Logon-Page.jsp

Unfortunately it's still a bit buggy and doesn't work too well for the CX5300.

There is always the "direct" approach if you can't get the system to move the cartridge carrier into the cartridge change position. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head starts to move, pull the power lead out of the printer, or turn it off at the mains. The print head should now be free to move by hand. Gently move it into the cartridge change position and change the cartridge. Turn the printer back on and carry out a cleaning cycle. It should now be OK.

Regarding ink supplies, you may well find the cheapest source is E-Bay - see

http://computers-networking.shop.ebay.ph/items/Printer-Ink-Cartridges__W0QQ_catrefZ1QQ_sacatZ16192

I hope this is a help. Please report back if you have further problems

Oh - the printer utility is called the "Status Monitor" (SM) and lives in your system tray - see the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. Right click it for the menu and select printer settings to change a cartridge (this assumes the CX5300 SM behaves in the normal way).

Why is power button light blinking green on Epson SX200 printer?

Regarding your recent inquiry about the Epson T071 ink cartridge error message ("Ink Light is red", "Cartridge Not Recognized", "Replace Cartridge", "Installed ink cartridge is expended." or similar cartridge/printer alert message) associated with your Epson SX200 printer, the cartridge probably has a mis-programmed smart chip...

NOTE: If you had the cartridge refilled, the cartridge chip must be reset. Re-programming, which typically yields a green light to show success, it does not always result in correct smart chip reprogramming. It is also possible they may have forgotten to re-program the ink cartridge. If a compatible/clone cartridge, it could be a reprogramming issue or defective chip (which is common). Or, such a failure could be an electrical failure of the ink cartridge itself*. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do from home....the chip(s) need to be re-programmed (at refiller) or replaced with a new cartridge from vendor.

*OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES OF FAILURE:
Either the external chip or internal ink sensor is electrically bad (the internal ink sensor detects if cartridge is really out of ink). If you return the cartridge to your retail refiller and they re-program the cartridge(s) a 2nd time but the "replace cartridge" message, or similar blocking message persists, then this is the likely cause and the cartridge will need to be replaced with a new one.

1) Confirm if this is just a nuisance/annoyance alert (i.e. "non-genuine" cartridge ) vs. an actual 'unrecognized cartridge' alert (i.e. Red X's on printer display / Windows pop-up message). Please visit the following Inkjet411 support page which will help you delineate the difference: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=73

2) On some Epson printer models you may need to scroll thru the menu options AT THE PRINTER'S CONTROL MENU (i.e. right arrow key) to help determine which specific ink cartridge is actually causing the 'Unrecognized Cartridge' error condition. On the other hand, for general 'non-genuine' cartridge alerts, typically you can bypass these errors by clicking thru the acknowledgement prompts or via the arrow keys: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1939

3) We suggest you remove all the ink cartridges, inspect the smart-chips condition (on rear side) and ensure there are no cuts/gashes or ink residue present on the micro-chip surfaces. To be sure we suggest you clean the micro-chip surfaces; click here to see 2 different pictures of this along with cleaning instructions: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1939

4) If the error continues (following ink tank re-programming a 2nd time), then we suggest you install a new genuine Epson ink cartridge into the printer to verify the permanent PRINTHEAD is functioning ok. Here is how the PRINTHEAD works: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2054

NOTE 2: Following refilled cartridge installation, your printer/computer may display an ink alert message such as "non-genuine cartridge" or "you have not installed genuine Epson ink cartridges" - these are COMPLETELY NORMAL alerts when using refilled ink cartridges. Press proceed/continue/accept/yes/OK to dismiss the prompt. In some cases you may have to scroll over using the arrow keys to dismiss the alerts. Additional alerts may be displayed the first time you go to print or copy - dismiss the alerts accordingly to resume normal print operations. For more information on Epson ink cartridge alert messages please visit: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1939

-------------
CAUTION: Be advised, the use of compatible/clone cartridges (i.e. sold thru the internet from overseas) are known to be problematic and may cause printer errors or permanent PRINTHEAD damage (especially for 3rd party inks which contain volatile organic compounds or VOCs). We do NOT suggest refilling these types of ink cartridges.....refilling of Epson original/genuine ink cartridges is only suggested!

-------------

NOTE 3: If, after replacing the cartridge(s), with brand new Epson Original ink cartridge(s), is the only solution which corrects the problem, then you likely have a defective cartridge (internal ink level monitoring circuit), unrelated to the refilled cartridges. If, after replacing the cartridge, or cartridges, with brand new Epson Original ink cartridges, does NOT correct the problem, then you may have a defective PRINTHEAD (i.e. permanent electrical sub-assembly which the cartridges plug into). For more information please visit our support page which explains the natural degradation of PRINTHEADs over time: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2934

My epson stylus cx6000 has stopped printing black. I've cleaned the print head, changed the cartridge and it still won't print black. What else can I do?

Be sure you are using genuine epson ink. Epson printers are "smart" and will not allow generic ink to work properly. Even after you replace a generic with a genuine it may take several print outs and alignments to get it to print again.

My CX5300 has over 50% ink in all cartridges, but when I print text or pictures I get streaky lines that look like ink is only being delivered occassionally. How to resolve?

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc. Cleaning didn't correct the problems either!! These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, put stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

Changing ink default to BLACK

Not possible.
Epson uses the black cartridge mostly, but also adds color to the black printing in order to keep the color inks from drying in the print jets on the printhead.
They also make lots of money that way...

Changed cartidges & now black and blue don't print on C88+

Try to remove and reinstall the blue and black cartridge and check if you punctured the plastic cap underneath the cartridge itself. then reinstall it and make sure you hear a click or it snaps in. try head cleaning cycle from the utility and print a nozzle check pattern. If same output maybe carts are bad. If that is a genuine epson ink cartridge, call epson and have the ink cartridges replace since they are new ones and for sure epson will send inks since you just bought it. make sure you have date of purchase handy.

pls dont 4get to rate solution if it helps... thanks!!
