At the bottom right of the screen, the should be a little arrow pointing to the left in a circle, click it. You should see a speaker icon somewere, click that, make sure it's not down all the way. Does that help?

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB.
