Hi there
Thats pretty much a bad driver and software problem.
Uninstall the Lexmark software and restart your machine, then reinstall the software again, print a test page as you normally would and the try to scan again. You will no doubt find your problem is resolved.
Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!

The scanner software needs to be loaded on the computer.

Lexmark suggests this:
Scan Fails to Pick Up New Host or Downloading Applications Fails When Another All-In-One of the Same Model Is Connected
ID: ENUS30543
What you will see
After you connect another All-In-One of the same model to your PC, the following may occur when you attempt to scan:
Explanation
If you simply plug the new All-In-One into the USB port on the PC, a "new" plug-and-play event will install a new copy of the printer driver. To confirm that this is the cause of your issue, look for two copies of the printer in the Printers folder.
What to do
To resolve this issue, restart the PC. Scanning should now work as expected.
Still have questions?
Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional assistance. NOTE: When calling for support, you will need your printer model type and serial number.
Please call from near the printer and computer in case the technician asks you to perform a task involving these devices.

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by
resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer
from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and
re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns
on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again
once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on
the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).
