I have 4 wires from my old analog thermostat. Red, blue, white, and green

Look closely at the wire terminal screws on the thermostat. There are raised letters telling you what color wire to connect to it. be careful not to touch the red wire to the others. You can blow the internal fuse on the 24 VAC transformer that supplies the voltage to the thermostat.

Yes it has 3 AAA batteries.

A pair of wires should go to some power source...and pass through the humidisat (not thermostat). The clicking sound you will get whether there is power there or not. Try and trace those wires to a power source off the furnace.off a little metal unit called a transformer. new home. it should work unless they left the wires off for the owners to hook up...or for some electrician to do the final hook up.
It its a new home, don't be afraid to call the builders. They are expecting you.

Depending on the age of your furnace you may have an aux terminal for a humidifier. If not, you should use the white wire (heat) coming from the homes thermostat to power up the humidistat and ultimately bring on the humidifier. This way it will only run when in heating mode.

I have a HoneywelI Enviracare Elite whole house humidifier. I have no power to the thermostat. The wire goes into the furnace and is attached to a control board. The furnace is working. Humidifer is n

Most of the humidifiers are run by 24 volts AC. disconnect the power wire to stat on circuit board and check there with meter and connect to low voltage ground for 24 volts, I'm assuming the two wires that power the humidistat are red and white.typically red is used for power. most likely you have power if the red for the stat is connected to the W on the board and the heat works, but the humidifier only works while heat is on.the next thing in line is the humidistat , it's a switch so if there is only two wires going to it take them off the stat and connect together, if furnace is on heat and running and stat wires are connected it will send power to water solenoid, if its not working yet the problem lies in the water solenoid if you have 24 volts at the two wires at solenoid.check while disconnected, do not connect those two wires together or a 3 amp fuse will blow on the furnace board. if you have 24 volts there then the valve may be bad or the valve may be stuck or clogged, loosen water supply line to make sure water is getting to valve. I spent many years working in the HVAC industry.

How do I know my aprilair 760 humidifier is working?

A simple check you can perform on your aprilaire 760 is the following:
1) locate the two brown wires coming out of the 760 (these wires will be wired to tell the 760 to turn on when the hvac bower is on and the humidistat is calling for moisture).
2) temprarily disconnect the two brown wires from the external wiring and then short the wires together. All you're doing here is bypassing the your thermostat and bower-on indicator.

With the 70 unit plugged in to the wall outlet and the two brown wires connected together, both the fan and the solenoid valve (water inlet valve) should both be activated.

The red light is always on in my humidifier control panel. When I set it to test, I hear nothing clicking. No water runs into my humidifier. The unit (model 600) is about 6 years old.

if your using an outdoor thermostat then it may not be connected properly or the manual mode resistor wires are touching. these are connected on the humidistat just to the right of the H H terminals

Oil Furnace Problem

Hello Genna,
I am not a furnace guy but I may be able to give you a few ideas of things to diagnose the problem and get it resolved. First off, I assume you have a thermostat that you use to to turn your heat on. If it is a generic ( meaning : non programmable model) then you should be able to try this simple test. Remove the cover ( typically they snap on) around the thermostat so you can see the control mechanism inside. You should see few skinny wires ( similar to those used on a telephone wire) solid copper in various colors.. When you rotate the dial on your thermostat to call for heat, there is a small glass vial that has a drop of mercury ( which is electrically conductive) in it that makes contact and shorts two control wires together ad that is what calls for heat on your furnace. When the temp inside the room where the thermostat is reaches the tempertaure you requested, the bimetal mechanism either contracts or expands to reposition that glass vial to shift the mercury off the contacts and your furnace shuts off... That is the basics behind how your thermostat and furnace work ( generally speaking) If you can identify the two wires inside the thermosat that are shorted together when that vial of mercury shorts them inside it.. you can temproarily unhook them ( they are low voltage.. normally 24 Volts or less) so no worries about getting ashock or anything.. and short them together for a minute or two.. by doing that... your furnace should turn on and heat should flow.... Once you start your furnace this way.. unhook these two wires and your furnace should shut down .. It may take a minute or two ( depending on the control for it) If it doesn't..then your problem is on the furnace side and you may need to get the furnace control system serviced or replaced.. if it does shut down, then your problem is your thermostat and thats a simple replacement.. Also.. make sure the thermostat was properly leveled on its base.. The position of the thermostat ( meaning level) will dictate when that mercury makes contact and your furnace switches on.. OK..I tried to explain the works of this to you but here is a link to a Honeywell site that explains it in simpler terms.. The part about shorting the two wires together and then opening them will aid you in identifying where the problem actually is.. here is the link: http://homerepair.about.com/od/heatingcoolingrepair/ss/thermostat.htm

Hope this helps you more than confuses you..
Regards

I would guess from the info provided that you only have two wires going to your thermostat which would explain why the fan switch doesn't work on the thermostat. You can bypass the thermostat as a first step in troubleshooting. After that it depends on the type of furnace, standing pilot or electronic ignition...
