That would depend on the games you want to load. This laptop and most laptops have shared memory on-board and don't play high-end graphics too well. You can try and upgrade the memory, this laptop will hold up to 320mb. You can start out with 128MB Module 16x64-100MHz PC100,SO DIMM. And you need to make sure your hard drive is large enough and that your cd-rom drive is fast enough. I'm afraid you wont be able to play any games on this unit as it has only an onboard graphics adapter runing at 8MB minimum and probably 32MB maximum as it is being shared with your system memory, so there wont be any change if you download the latest drivers as they only work the graphics not upgrade them. even some of the latest notebooks cannot play games very well unless they are more expensive models with dedicated graphics cards and not onboard graphics.

Hi, Is Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 Silence 1GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card capable for my Compaq HP Presario SR2020NX? -thanks a lot.

You mean will the Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 with 1GB of graphics memory, work in a Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC?

Yes.

The Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC has a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00757470&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=3245048

{Motherboard illustration and photo are towards the bottom of the page}

Look at the specifications.
Scroll down to the heading - Expansion slots.

Three PCI. (PCI expansion slots)

One PCI Express x16 graphics.

NOTE*
Looking at the motherboard illustration, it is Wrong.
Shows - PCIEX1 (PCI E X1)
According to the specifications it is a PCIEX16 expansion slot. (PCI-E x16)

A PCI-Express x1 slot has 36 contact pins. 18 on each side.

In comparison a PCI slot {White} has 124 contact pins. 62 on each side.

Looking at the photo of the supposed PCI-E x1 slot they show, the black PCI-Ex1 slot is longer than the white PCI slots.

It is a PCI-Express x16 slot with 164 pins. 82 on each side.

The Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 uses a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

So you know the graphics card will fit. Low-profile to boot.

Power requirement:
The Compaq Presario SR2020NX desktop computer comes with a 300 Watt power supply.
(Although in actuality it's more like 70 percent of the maximum rated wattage. 210 Watts)

Enough power for the computer, and the graphics card.
ATI graphics cards do not use as much power as a comparable Nvidia graphics card.

Concerned that the Asus graphics card uses DDR3 graphics ram memory, and the Presario SR2020NX uses DDR2 Sdram ram memory?

Don't be. The graphics cards graphics memory runs independent of the computer's ram memory.

What video card are compatable with SR1620NX ? The graphics card is not working right anymore and I need a compatable video card.

A PCI Express graphics card.

Doesn't matter if the PCI Express graphics card uses the PCI Express 2.0 technology, or the PCI Express 2.1 technology.

The PCI Express graphics card, will insert into the PCI Express x16 expansion slot on the motherboard.

Supporting data;

1) View of the motherboard in an illustration,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00378480&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1127351

Scroll down the page to view the motherboard illustration.

A) Looking at the illustration, view the BATT. (CMOS Battery)

To the left of the CMOS Battery (BATT) are three white PCI slots.
Above them is a longer expansion slot. This is the PCI Express x16 slot.

Above it is marked > PCIX16X1 (PCI x16 times 1 slot)

NOTE* When installing the PCI Express graphics card, lift up gently on the Lock 'handle'.
It looks as though you should push down on it, but you need to lift up on it instead.

Also go above the motherboard illustration, and read to the right of the heading > Internal Connectors

In the list you will see > One PCI Express x16 graphics slot.

WHEN installing a graphics card, ALWAYS install the software from the CD disk provided, First!

Computer on, and Windows running, insert the graphics card's Installation disk, (CD) into the optical drive tray.
Install the software by following the directions.

THEN shut the computer down normally, and unplug the computer from power.
OBSERVE Anti-Static Precautions.
Install the graphics card.
Close the computer case, and plug the monitor into the graphics card.

Turn the computer on.

When you install a device (Such as a graphics card for example), Windows will try to find compatible drivers.
IF, THE driver is not installed First, Windows will match up one of it's thousands of generic drivers.

This = No.

You want THE driver installed first, so that Windows will find it, and Not try to match on of it's generic drivers.

NOTE 2*
It DOESN'T MATTER what graphics ram memory the graphics card has.
The graphics card's Processor and Ram Memory operates independent of the system resources.

Example:
The computer uses DDR Sdram ram memory.
The graphics card uses GDDR5 graphics ram memory.

It will work just fine.

NOTE 3*
It does NOT matter if your computer uses the PCI Express 1.1 technology, and the graphics card uses the PCI Express 2.0, or 2.1 technology.

PCI Express 2.0, and 2.1 technology is Backward Compatible with PCI Express 1.1 technology.

Will you get the full capability of the PCI Express 2.0, or 2.1 graphics card?
NO

Will you notice?
NO

What you need to look at it, is how much power will the graphics card use. Look at the system requirements for the graphics card, and be sure your Power Supply has enough power for that graphics card.

Also, IF, the graphics card requires additional power cables from the Power Supply, make sure your Power Supply has the required power cable, or power cables.
IF the Power Supply does not, use a power adapter cable.

NOTE 4*
Graphics card manufacturer's base the power needed for the graphics card, Not just on the graphics card itself, but on an entire computer system, AND the graphics card.

The graphics card manufacturers use a test computer system, that is a powerful computer system.
Gamer motherboard, Dual Core, or Quad Core processor, 4GB of ram memory, and at least two harddrives, and two optical drives, PLUS the graphics card in question.

This complete computer system uses a LOT more power than just the graphics card by itself.

There isn't a single graphics card out there, that uses more than 150 Watts by itself.

Recommendations for a graphics card that is compatible, with a Compaq Presario SR1620nx desktop computer?

Budget to medium:
Good enough to watch videos, older games, and some newer games.

Medium:

Compaq Presario V6500 has on board graphics card a separate card be installed, are there any options.

You can install a better graphics card in the AGP slot. You most likely need to disable the on board graphics card from the BIOS.

Which graphic card is suitable for my compaq presario sg1138il pc?

The type of graphics card you need depends upon the programs you are using.
For example if you only use your computer for simple wprd processing, e-mails etc. then you only need a low end graphics card.
If you have a high performance computer and you play graphics intensive video games that renders realistic images, then you need a high end graphics card and these cards will have large video RAM (memory).
There are a large range of graphics cards on the market, I suggest you Google search for graphics cards that matches your programs and application requirements.
If your model computer has an AGP expansion slot, then make sure the graphics cards are AGP cards.

ATI AGP card and Compaq Presario S3100NX with open AGP Slot

Hi,
This particular model of the system is basic home use system not built for games.
You can put in either a PCI graphics card or an AGP 4x graphics card that should not take more than 1.5v of power.
The max you can put is 128 MB , you can try the 256 MB, but i would suggest against it .

Thanks for using fIxya

My graphics card is fast at one point then slows down!

Make sure the driver for the notebook from the manufacturers website is installed, and not the video driver from Microsoft's Windows Update. After that, update Java, Adobe Flash and Adobe Shockwave. Finally, check for updates for DirectX (version 9.0C). Post back your results, please.

the pc you are using probably has onboard video and not a seperate dedicated AGP graphics card, which needs atleast 64MB of memory and T & L support, so check the card before you buy, if you already have an AGP card fitted it may not support T & L
