INSTALL.LOG ??

Hello...Starting a few weeks ago, I started getting pop-up windows saying ; '' INSTALL.LOG could not open file '' It usally happens when I try to open a file, any file, and when I try to uninstall a file and sometimes when I open my mail. What is this? Its really becoming a big problem. I tryed 3 different restore points and it did not help. Also, since this started happening, my log-on and log-off is extremely slow. It takes over 5 min. to log on or off and I have DSL. I contacted them and nothing is wrong on there end. Can you help me? I have a hp pavilion dv2000 notebook, not a dv2000t, but your list dosn't have this model listed. Thanks, Nancy

Hi

In case you have installed a new program uninstall that program and install it again . Also you can go to Start Menu>programs>Accessories>System Tools >system restore .
Note : Any new data saved can be lost
This will restore the system to previous settings and will work for sure .

Thanks
Rylee

It has occured because the last time you uninstalled a program/software it wasn't uninstalled properly thats why you are receiving this error and you need to delete the files by following this procedure :

    1. Open the directory where the program is installed. (Eg. For System Mechanic 5, By default, it is C:\Program Files\iolo\System Mechanic 5, if you have installed XP on C:\)
    2. You will see a file named "Install.log" in there.
    3. Move (cut and paste somewhere else) the "install.log" to say desktop.
    4. Now, double click the uninstaller (uninstall.exe or unwise.exe)
    5. It will ask you to open the installation log. Locate to the "install.log" file on your desktop.
    6. Now, uninstall will work fine and you can uninstall the program.

    Thanks

There are 2 reasons why you may see the "Could not open INSTALL.LOG file" error message when trying to uninstall the program:

1) Usually this problem arises when file named "install.log" is missing from program folder. This file contains information about what files were copied during installation and is required to uninstall the program automatically using "Add/Remove program" applet. The "install.log" file may get deleted by some "eager" disk cleanup software that delete all files having .log extension. If you open your program installation folder and see no "install.log" file there, then you can't automatically uninstall the program. Instead, just delete the program folder and it's group under Start | Programs. None of our major program install files outside program folder.

2) If the "install.log" file is in your program folder, then probably there is something wong with uninstall information in the registry. On that case just double-click on the "uninstall.exe" file that is on the same folder and uninstallation screen should appear. If running uninstall.exe displays the same "Could not open INSTALL.LOG file" error message, then you probably have older uninstall program and need to drag "install.log" over "uninstall.exe" with the mouse and release mouse button. Then uninstall.exe will be started and install.log filename is passed on command line as a parameter.

Here is how you do it without having to manually remove all the files and registry entry.

  • Navigate to program’s installation folder
  • Cut or move the INSTALL.LOG to somewhere else. eg: desktop or my documents. Reminder: Move the file, not copy.
  • Run the uninstaller and it will ask you to locate the INSTALL.LOG file.
  • Select the file you move earlier and voila the program uninstalled!

A recently deleted program which wasn't un-installed successfully running in the background could be the cause of your pop-ups as well.

START > RUN > and type "msconfig" (less the quotes).

    Click OK

    Then click the startup tab.

Everything with a checkmark is slated to run when windows starts.

De-select everything (except your antivirus program) and re-boot your computer.

Windows Defender (free d/l from microsoft home), is also a good program for removing startup programs.

    Keep us posted!!

This sounds like a program in your startup is having difficulty finding a file. Does the error message give any further details?

As soon as you power up your laptop, keep tapping F8 until another screen pops up. Select reinstall windows / restore factory settings (Should be an option to reset your computer back to factory settings)
Any data on your computer will be lost during this process.....
This will reinstall the windows you already have on your hard drive and will not require a disk.

Hope this helps and please rate, thanks

You should always let us know the Opertaing system you are using. i will assume that you are using XP However my instructions will work for 7 and Vista.

This does look like an issue with the Operating System. Follow these steps to see if we can quickly resolve this issue.

Boot up in safe mode:
1. reboot the machine and tap "F8" until you get an option to start in safe mode
2. Once in safe mode go to "Start" -> "All Programs" -> "Accessories" -> "System Tools" -> "System Restore"

Restore your machine to an earlier date and see if this resovles the issue.

If this fix does not work then I would recommend you backup all your files to an external hard drive and restore your laptop to the factory default settings or run a Windows repair. Let me know

Hope this helps.

Problem in os

Try starting explorer by going to file\new task (run..) and typing explorer.

If it doesnt work, just type msconfig on the same box and go to startup tab, leaving everything unmarked, just reboot your pc and problem should be solved

INSTALL.LOG ??

Can you open task manager ? When this msg come dont terminate it. Open task manager and watch which process is holding that error. Kill this process. Try to erase another file. If it happen again, you are attacked by a great virus. There is one solution without installing OS again. Scan your HDD with another PC which have a recently updated virus scanner. Keep informing.

Lsass.exe Error insufficient rescources? Annoying help please.

This usually happens when your hard drive is getting full and Windows cannot increase the size of the swap file. Check your amount of free space on the system drive (usually c:).

Hope that helps :)
