when you have the flash drive in your computer right click on the drive and from there you can try to format the drive. So make sure you move all the programs or information to some place on your computer so you can put it back when you are done.

Your computer probably has a registry key set to make your flash drive protected.
To remove this follow the following directions:
DISCLAIMER: If you are not comfortable using the registry editor find someone who knows how to and is comfortable using it.

1. Open Registry Editor Start-->Run Type: regedit
2. navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
3. Click on "StorageDevicePolicies"
4. Double click on Write Protection and change value to '0'
5. Repeat for CurrentControlSet001 002 etc. etc.
6. Restart
7. Test

Hope this helps

Have a great day!

Please describe your how can i do remove the witeprotecion of flash drive problem

Flash and USB drives usually have either a mechanical switch or software that can lock the drive.
If your drive has the switch, slide it to unlock. If it is software, follow the instructions in the help file on the drive. The drives are not supplied locked by software.
If the Flash Drive has been locked using Bitlocker, the only way to unlock it is to input the password set at the time it was locked, as with software locks.

My PC could not save file in my flash drive where as folder can.

Maybe the root of the USB drive is protected. If you got any switch for write protection in the USB drive, unlock it and try saving.

Thank you!

  • Windows Vista - Go to Start -> Control Panel -> AutoPlay (while in Control Panel's Classic View). Find "Mixed Content" and select "Ask me every time" or "Take no action".
  • Windows XP - I cannot find anything for XP. However, if you go to Control Panel -> Folder Options (In Classic View), and click the "File Types" tab, and then select "Drive", you can double click that, and set the default one to be "find", or maybe delete the current one.
Hope this helps,

Save, and it should work fine!

PNY Write Protected

Check and see if you can copy and paste that file from it's location and place it on the desktop. Basically seeing if you can move that file within your PC. If this is a work computer, it might have precautions built-in to write protect it's documents. If you can move the file around in your computer then it's probably a problem with your flash drive. Can you copy anything to the drive?, such as a simple text file, music, etc. I'm also assuming that you checked the properties on the drive itself to make sure it wasn't locked. You could also try another flash drive to eliminate the possiblilty of your stick being defective.
Let me know how you do.
