Remaining recording time VERY short for no apparent reason
For some reason, my WS 110 is showing that I have only a little more that 2 hours left of recording time. But I'm supposed to have something like 17 hours. What is this? I've erased all the files, but I still get only 2 hours of recording time remaining.

It seems to be working now....I am keeping my fingers crossed. Being that my technology skills leave something to be desired, I fixed it the old fashioned way. Took the batteries out, blew hard into the battery space, put the battery back in and said a little prayer. It turned right on....
the only thing left to try is to try and format the device and see if you can restore it back to factory default settings. You go to the menu and to the format option. This will permanently remove any recordings you have done and as I said restore the device back to factory settings. If that doesn't work then you will probably need to send it to Olympus for repair service.
well, i resolved this myself by going to the sub-menu, and formatting
the recorder to its original state. thankfully, i backed up the files
on my computer first, so i didn't lose any data, although i did have to
go in and re-set all my preferences on the recorder.
lesson: don't MOVE files from recorder to computer. copy them instead,
and do the actual erasing from the physical recorder itself. i don't know if this was the most elegant solution, but at least it did get my recorder up and running again. i'd love to hear if there is a better resolution out there.
I have one of these recorders, I actually have 4 or 5, since discontinued I believe, and one is stuck at 43 min remaining.
I think that problems start when you remove the battery while
the recorder is / was in the process of recording (or in play mode) I now press stop while recording before opening the battery case to switch a battery
My WS-recorder did something simular to me. I hadnt used it for a while then it would only hold about 20 min. of recording no matter what record mode I selected.....so.....
I held down the menu/folder button to get to the menu "mode". Press the FF to scroll through until you get to "FORMAT". Press Play and the screen will show "NO"...press FF to chose "Yes" it will ask you "are you sure" press FF to say "YES" then play to make it reformat. It hangs out for a couple of seconds then after that I have my regular 4 hours of record time back.
***** I would make sure I had downloaded all my info off the WS-100 BEFORE I did a re-Format.**** I dont know why it worked, but it did. I like this little recorder and Im glad to have it functioning properly again.
The tinny/echoey sound could just be the environment you are in. Even how close or far it is from the subject...how many people are in the room....if a fan is on in the room....This little thing isnt super high quality in its play back mode....hook it up to you computer speakers and you will like the sound much better.
