If you take the screen off the tv you can get to the tubes to remove them alot easier than doing it from the back. they are easy to remove from the front when you unbolt them and lift them out. you can work the rest of it from there

Hi, Please specify the model number. I personally feel replacing tube would be expensive than getting a new TV set.
If you want to remove the tube, switch off the unit. Unplug and leave the unit for 5-10 mins (until the capacitors in the circuit get discharged.)
Remove all the connections leading to the tube. Do remember the connections which you need to connect back.
Remove the tube.
Insert the new tube and connect back everything.

Only thing to care is high voltage wire and you can pull it out from HV block easily and touch to nearby ground connection.
there is PCB attached at base of CRT, pull it too, unhook Yoke connections from board, unscrew CRT and take it out.
    Pretty easy job.
let me know what kind of more info you need in replacing tube in projection TV.

How to change picture tube(crt) in a sony kp57ws500

Changing picture tube is a professional job and involves many procedures that are beyond the DIY projects. How ever if you are really hot with electronic, you can attempt it at your own risk. Make sure set has been off for some time, disconnected, and HV discharged. You will have to open the hard board back then the plastic back cover on top. Remove the mirror, Be careful!! now you will see the three tubes choose the one you need to change. Its better to disconnect all and take the crt assembly out and then change the one thats bad. take care and do it if you are very sure of what you want. There are FAQs on www.fixurtvs.com. You can download service manual from tech support at fixya site.

Sony kp51hw40 has green shadows and on edges in pictures and blue flickers on and off, tried all adjustments including screen, focus, and menu??? no luck

The CRTs in this model of TV had a problem with internal leakage. The blue was usually the first to show the symptom (flicker). Because all 3 CRTs are connected to the same high voltage source, when 1 acts up, the other 2 suffer as well. You need to replace the Blue CRT. However, this TV has some age on it... 1 tube will lead to 2 tubes, and 2 tubes to 3... They only last about 7 years. If you love the TV, replace all 3 (about $200 each). I recommend replacing the Red and Blue first, adjusting the geometry and convergence to the original Green. Then replace the Green, adjusting the geometry and convergence to the new Blue and Red.
