Question about Sony CMT-HP7 CD Shelf System

1 Answer

Speakers crackle, then sporadically stop

Ever since I moved into my new apartment, the stereo has been acting oddly. We use it for FM and CDs. When you first turn it on it works fine, although if you turn it up loud you can hear a faint crackling, mostly from the left speaker. The crackling is similar to what you hear when an FM station is faint, and the stereo band doesn't completely come through, except this happens when playing a CD as well.

After 5-10 minutes, the sound will start shutting off or 'cutting out' sporadically for 5-10 seconds at frequent and apparently random intervals. After 20 minutes, there is more silence than sound.

Sounds like an amplifer fault. Many of these Midi system use a large black IC attached to a metal heatsink. They control both the power amp and pre amp on both channels. When they go wrong they can cause all sorts of effects,
If you can repair things I would look at that. If not get ready for a large bill. If it's the IC some are expensive, it does most of the work!

Why do speakers crackle and flash protect

Check your speaker wires. Make sure they are not touching each outher or back of the unit. This will overload your output transistors and shut down your amp.

Hmm ... where is Charles Sheppard when you need him!?! Sorry, I can't help you ... though to answer your question, I imagine the underlying problem was never really fixed. Maybe its a loose/frayed wire issue between your stereo and the speakers. Cheers.

Sound fluxuates, crackling sound samsungTX-R3079WH sound goes up and down automaticly

If the sound FLUCTUATES up & down, try turning off the AutoVolume in the sound menu. You didn't say if it's one or all speakers crackling. Crackling is either a speaker or circuitry issue. Adjust the balance away from the speaker that crackles, if it stops, that speaker is probably "fried". If it still crackles, I'd turn off the speakers and run the sound thru a stereo for the quick, cheap fix. My Samsung (10+ years old to be fair) crackles due to a circuit issue but if I SMACK the left side speaker (behind which is the sound board and side panel connectors) it stops for a while. Maddening. I think I broke it squeezing it into the furniture it's in, pressing on the protruding RCA plugs. Dumb design.

You most likely need a new radio. They go bad all the time in the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep. Don't know how many of them I have replaced.

Very loud odd noise coming from radio speaker

There might be 2 probs
  1. The wires soldered to the the CD/FM input/output wires might have come loose leading to short/sparks causing the loud sound(constant).
  2. If there are any sockets requiring plug-in they may require cleaning with pure alcohol or rectified spirit(unlikely).
  3. The wire leads going to the speakers may be partially loose........................sodeep

Crackling from surrond sound

I have a SONY home theater4.gif system, HT-C800DP, there is a crackling sound when playing DVDs - it is almost as if the unit overheats. Is there any solution to this? Sometimes I cannot even finish a DVD as the noise gets very loud.
Thanks,
