Turn the mixer around and face the rear of the machine, look at the round end cover; on the top center you will see a small phillips head screw take it out and then lift up and slightly out to remove the cover of the electronics of the machine, the first thing you will see is the speed control plate (black and copper) behind that is the governor and behind that at the top is the phase control board. Hope that helps, What are you trying to accomplish?

Kitchenaid professional 6000 My mixer has a problem and I know it's in the planetary but cannot figure out how to open it. Any help would be appreciated. John

You need to remove the trim band (one screw at the back) that exposes 4 screw heads where the top cover joins the gear case. There are 4 screws from the top that retain the planetary assembly. I can't remember if you need to remove the motor to expose all of them. The motor is no big deal to remove.

Why won't our kitchenaid stand mixer run?

He rdnowak:
I am sure #10 in the highest speed, but are you saying it will only run at #10? if so I would start by removing the cover again. Hopefully no parts are missing. Make sure the selector switch is moving things on the board if possible. I mean if you can move it with you finger you should be able to move it with the selector lever. Sorry for the trouble but I have never taken mine apart I just clean the out side. I do no this. Sometimes I must take something apart and reassemble them several times before getting them to work the way they are supposed to.
Best of luck

Kitchen Aid HDPro 5 quart bowl lift mixer is making clunking, rattle type noise when mixing anything heavier than egg whites.

You are probably going to have to remove the top housing and look and listen while it is running. Does it lose drive when it is being noisy? You need to remove the back cover, the silver band with Kitchen Aid on it and that will expose the 4 screws holding the housing on. Remember fingers and tools OUT while it is plugged in or running. I can't be a lot more help to you, we don't have that model in NZ.

How to remove the knob

the center of the front of the knob should have a small hole with a screw in it. This is covered over with a \'sticker\' for estetics. peal the sticker at the edge and pluck it off to expose the screw.
remove the screw and gently pry the knob off of the switch.

Mixer only moves at one speed

Referring to the following parts description:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%208212369.pdf

The speed is controlled with a combination of the governor assembly #24 which mounts on the motor shaft, and the phase control board #27 which is mounted on the back of the mixer.

They operate in conjunction with item #25, the control plate assembly.

WARNING SHOCK HAZARD. FOLLOW THESE STEPS ONLY IF YOU ARE COMPETENT WORKING AROUND HOT ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS!!!

Remove the rear cover screw #37 and the rear cover #36 and examine the governor when it is running. Also watch the speed control lever mechanism as you move it from off to the highest speed watching for binding etc.

Make sure that the spring #4 is attached to the bottom of the control plate #25.

If the governor appears to be opening and closing as the speed increases and the linkage is not binding then the problem is most likely the Phase Control Board, item #27.

Mixer is stuck on top speed, whipped up marshmellows for 15 minutes

Referring to:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%208212010.pdf

It may be a mechanical problem and it may be a problem with the small circuit board inside the machine. In order to inspect the mechanism, remove screw #23 and then remove the cover #24. Look for a spring item #4, which will be attached to the bottom of the control plate assembly, item #28. If it is not there then the plate will not return to the slow position.

Try moving the speed control knob abd watch the action of the speed control plate. It should move freely in and out. If not then check for binding and/or loose screws.

If all the above is OK then the problem is most likely the phase control board item #30. It can be purchased online for around $15 and is fairly easy to replace.

The latch/switch on the speed control board is stuck

You need to take the back cover off and then split the gear cases to find the mechanical reason why the lever is stuck. Take the motor off the pedestal, remove the planetary and undo the 9 screws that hold the bottom gearcase to the top housing. You will need to unplug the white and the black wires from one side of the speed control plate.

I just did this last week!
1 Unplug Mixer 2 Remove screw on TOP of mixer body, at back. 3 Remove rear cover and paper-gasket thing (its not the end of  the world if you end up tearing it a little). 4 the phase control (little circuit board w/wires) is at the top (you  should see it very easily) held on by one screw, remove it. 5 when the circuit board is unscrewed, disconnect all the wires  that are connected FROM THE CIRCUIT BOARD to the  black control plate (NOT all wires-there should be 4 left on  the control plate at this point).  you don't need to  remember where all the colors go as the control plate is  labeled->but looking at them and making sure you  understand the abbreviations would be beneficial  (BK=black, BL=Blue RW=Red&White W=white R=red etc.   6 install new phase control (screw), either buy new thermal  grease (used to keep the board cool->it transfers heat to  the mixer's housing) or try to salvage what you can from  the old one. 7 connect wires, paying attention to labels. 8 reinstall paper gasket, then cover, then screw to hold on back- cover.
