Question about Carrier XHB123D X/Y Series Heat/Cool Air Conditioner
Carrier Weathermaker 8000 2 speed:
Sets code 32 when the wind blows.
I have to shut off thermostat, then shut off circuit breaker to furnace.
Then turn circuit breaker back on, then reset thermostat.
Furnace runs until code 32 sets again.
Could set code within 1 minute or 3 hours - depends on wind condition.
New filter has no effect on problem.
Has been going on for last 3 heating seasons.
Furnace is 8 years old and has been serviced for other concerns.
Furnace is in garage.
4 inch flue running 30 degrees upward about 7 feet to vertical flu.
3 inch water heater flu ties in with furnace flu about 5 feet from furnace.
Cap on flu up on roof is open 360 degrees
Hi and welcome to Fixya. I believe that the wind is affecting the draft. What I would recommend is to install a cap on the flue that is similar to a weather vane in that it rotates to block the wind from creating a downdraft in the flue. Some times depending on the direction and strength of the wind it will come up over the roof peak and then down the flue. A regular fixed cap may work too. You should be able to purchase one at your local hardware store. Please let me know if this was helpful. Good luck.
