Question about Zanussi ZX99 / 5 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

3 Answers

Zanussi ZX99/5SI The fridge compartment keeps getting warm. An engineer came out and showed me that the fan for the fridge (which is in the freezer compartment) was covered in a block of ice. He said that the door to the freezer may have been left open but we have been really careful, the seal seems to be ok too? I was told to defrost the appliance, which I did and it was ok for about a month, then had to do the same thing again last week and it has happened agin today! The temp alarm for the freezer goes off , it is set between 0-3, and yet again the fan is frozen. Does anyone know why this keps happening?

I have exactly same problem with mine, in fact, just after the warranty expired the problems began. An independant engineer came out to fix it but stated that this is a common design fault with this model and basically tough luck! I was hoping for a fix for this as its been in my garage for 5 years used as freezer only until now i need it to put in a rental property

I had this problem with my ZX99. In my case it was caused by faulty temp sensors not making the defrost system kick into place. The defrost cycle works by heating an element for every week or so for a few minutes.

You have a fault in the defrost system - possibly due to a faulty module

How do I run a diagnostic test on my fridge freezer?

I would check the coolant pressure is correct. You may need the services of an engineer with the correct equipment and gas bottle.

Defrosted freezer and turned back on. freezer seems to work but not fridge. back wall of fridge feels warm

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

OR.
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Zanussi refrigerator/freezer model ZX99/5

Hi,
I had the same problem...it was a defrost problem in the freezer....mad i know...fridge doesnt work but freezer does...so its the freezer problem right!!!
This is how i solved it....there is fan behind the freezer compartment....you need to remove all the freezer draws then the plate at the back of the freezer compartment(everything is accessible from inside the freezer only) once removed you can put your hand up inside the gap(make sure power is off and unplugged) just in reach is the fan which you should be able to rotate with your fingers...mine was covered in ice and not able to move as a result the cold air couldnt be blown up into the fridge(the only thing controlling the air into the fridge is a flap and depending upon what fridge setting you have this determines how much cold air its letting in.)
If the fan has been frosted up you need to defrost the freezer....and source a new defrost sensor.
hope it helps.

Zanussi ZX 57/3 fridge and freezer not working

Hi . Most freezers with the condenser coils at the back do not work when the temperature where it is placed gets below (( 5 degree c ))?? IE in a garage if it is freezing weather outside. One solution is somehow to keep the condenser compartment warm. Check the makers website. for what they say about it

Fridge making a purring sound then stopped working

Yes, I think you have a problem that can be fixed easily by a repair technician. The sound as you described it could have come from the air circulation fan in the freezer compartment striking ice. As the ice builds up it could have stopped the fan from rotating and air flow to the refrigerator compartment.

I have a zanussu fridge

Re. Zanussi ZK87/46EFS Fridge Freezer

The same symptom occurred in our fridge freezer. The fridge compartment warmed up whilst the freezer compartment continued to keep temperature.

The cause of our problem was diagnosed as a frozen sensor that controls a flap, that controls the flow of cold air from the freezer compartment up into the fridge compartment. We were advised to power off the fridge freezer (removing all food and trays from the freezer unit first), and to leave it to defrost for 24hrs. We needed to place a few towels on the floor of the freezer compartment to soak up the melt water. After 24hrs we followed the power up instructions in the manual (versions are available online if you have lost yours). Within a few minutes it was obvious that the fridge compartment was being cooled – Problem solved :)

Fridge not cooling

Three most common problems are bad evaporator fan motor, defrost problem, or damper motor.
