Complete failure to insert disks into the optical drive UJ-845

I have a IMac G5, 17 inch computer with systems 10.5.6 installed. My problem, just recently stated with the computer not accepting any input into the disk slot. The drive operated at the beginning of Leopold and worked fine until a few days ago. I understand that some people are blaming the system Leopold for problems with the Matshita DVD-R UJ-845 Super Drive for not performing properly. I believe the majority of the problems may be due to Firmware not being completely insink with the optical drive. In my case I believe my optical unit (Super Drive) has failed due to the increasing slowness of preparing disks over time. My question is, do the information I have given indicate a new drive is needed and if so, is there an upgrade to this unit, or do I need to replace with a new UJ-845 unit.

Hi there.

If the Matshita does not write,, or started to have problem when burning CDs then it is the well know firmware problem.

A way to fix this is calling apple support by phone, they will give you a patch to fix the problem.

If the Matshitainstead does not read or write, then it is a lens problem. Try a lens cleaner CD, if that does not work, then replace the Matshita drive, this drive unit is well known for low performances and problems on many computers.

My DVD drive Matshita DVD-RAM UJ 850S stopped working on my Toshiba laptop, device driver says it is installed correctly. Any help?

Your cdrom's Upper/lower filters are messed up

follow this

Windows XP loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution');
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  4. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  6. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  7. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
  8. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  9. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  10. Exit Registry Editor.
  11. Restart the computer.
good luck

My Matshita UJ-840D DVD/CD-ROM Drive Stopped working

Hi,
i,m assuming this is A laptop Computer ?
The only thing you can try is this:-
go to My Computer/Control Panel/ System/Device Manager.
see if there are any yellow triangles or exclamation marks by your problem device. if so click un-install. then at the top of that page, there is a refresh icon or similar. which will rescan the systems bus.
failing this try add new hardware wizard, in control panel.
finally ensure the device is connected correctly, unlock/remove and re-insert. update any device drivers for this.

Acer 5510 notebook Matshita UJ-845D DVD/CD-R Writer Problem

Unfortunately there are no updates available for the UJ-8xx series (except for Sony - which won't work on other machines) as it just uses an old generic Windows optical device driver.

Your problems lie elsewhere.

These units have very very very strong region restriction - no reported patches or fixes that I can find...

So they come with an original region (the local one for where you bought the laptop) set by the manufacturer. You only have 5 possible region changes before it locks on to the final region permanently*.

There is very little info on the Matsushita (now Panasonic) website - but it appears that when you insert a different region disk into the drive it will automatically change the region restriction setting to that new region (and there goes one of your 5 allowed changes??).

If this is correct then you may start with for example a region 2 restriction (whatever the local region is for your computer) and record various DVDs in region 2 format. Then one day you try (deliberately or accidentally) a region 4 disk. Your drive reads it and changes the default to ... region 4 (using one allowed change)... next you put in one of your old disks - and the drive restriction default is changed back to region 2 (using another of your 5 changes) - until you've used up the 5 changes - when it's locked.

Because it's an odd number, chances are you'll end up with a permanent non-local region restriction...

* and Panasonic/Matsushita will only change it for a cost apparently...

so not very good news...

To help you, try this handy little free tool. It will tell you whether your drive is restricted, which region it's currently set to; and how many changes of the 5 you've already used:
http://hijacker.rpc1.org/discinfo/#Download

now if I could just find out how to change the current region...
