Question about Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Laptop
My son wanted to try out Fedora on his Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop and since we had made system restore backup disks when we first bought it we weren't too woried about getting it back to normal if he had trouble. He has been able to always return it to factory settings in the past when he experiments. This time he seems to be stuck. He was able to load the Fedora operating system and we seem to be stuck with it. When he puts in the restore disk it kicks over to grub bootloader it won't boot from it. We aren't sure what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks, J
What you need to do is put in the first restore disc. Turn off the PC. Then when you start you will see the compaq logo there should be an option to boot to boot order. Usually F12. If not there should be an option to go to BIOS. F2. You need to boot to disc first. Once you boot to disc follow the instructions to reinstall Windows.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

is there a CD in your drive?
this is a very common situation.
the BIOS has instructions to check for a system disk at the floppy drive (if appropriate) the CD or DVD drive then the Hard Dirve. If you have a non-system disk inserted, you will get the error "operating system not found"
i hope this helps you

Enter BIOS Menu and look for Hard Disk SATA IDE setting of AHCI. Disable this by setting to Compatible mode.
XP does not support AHCI mode.
Please rate me if this works.

My CQ50 came with the system recovery on another partition on the drive. Re-boot and press f11 and see if yours has it as well. If not i think Compaq's site said around $15 for a new set to be sent out.
Hope this helps
