With my camera I have the choice of using AA batteries (which last for about half an hour of use) but I almost always plug in a rechargeable battery pack instead. The AA batteries inside the camera are apparently disabled while the cable from the external pack is plugged in.

Each recharge is normally good for well over a hundred pictures but I've occasionally gotten the "low battery" indicator much sooner than that. It's always turned out to be caused by poor contact at one end or the other of the external power cable.

It sounds like your camera is only getting power through the USB cable (which might or might not be enough for it). I'd say, start by rechecking the batteries themselves, making sure they're connected/inserted correctly and the contacts are clean, and making sure the external power jack hasn't become crudded up in some way so that it's cutting off the internal battery.

My Nikon camera battery was flat so charge it over night the next morning finds out it reads on the screen exhausted battery, please help me resolve it again

Batteries can lose their ability to charge if they get extremely low...it may be that the battery is no good anymore.

I keep getting "Battery Exhausted" messages, with new batteries

you have to use only very good quality batteries ...I have a philips..and if I do not put alcaline quality bateries in it ..it do not even power up ....and even with this expensive ones it eats 'em like snacks...
by the way ...keep the batteries inside only when you shoot cause all this new cameras with display and so ...consumes the batteries even when they are powered off ..
my advise is to buy some accumulators the kind you charge on the home power plug.....so in this way .. you will always have strong power into them ..and the cost its worthily ..

Batteries won't maintain electrical connection

hi jensen,

in that case u'll have to change the body of the camera.
i can tell u a trick: place a piece of an aluminum foil (kitchen foil) between the contacts and the batteries. this will ensure a good connection.

try it and please rate this solution.

good luck!

There are three battery type settings in the set up menu: Alkaline, COOLPiX(NiMH) and Lithium. Might be worth looking at. To be continued.

No firmware upgrade available yet, but did you set the camera settings to the TYPE of battery you are using? Go to Setup, chose Battery, then set type - alkaline, lith, metal hyd, etc and see if that helps.
