3rd shaft lost inside 2nd shaft

Yup.Close all leggs up,tape the other 2 so they don't come out, then shake the tripod like your shaking a thermometer to get the mercury down. That lost leg should slide out easily.Once out, place a small hose clamp on each of the final legs just above the rubber tip and this will NEVER happen again.

I tried a Promaster 7150 outdoors this weekend. At 20 degrees F. the swivel mechanism was too stiff to move. I planned to use it for winter wildlife photography, sometimes at temps well below zero. Is...

No I don't think defective, I tried to do a search on the head itself with no luck so I'm going on memory. If this has any plastic parts as in the pan head, tilt or swing it would most definitely not be my choice for cold weather photography. For one it not only gets stiff it become brittle. Another thing I think that model has a gear height adjustment which will actually become stiff and when you loosen it to crank the thing up or down it will actually ratchet or skip. I'm not pulling your equipment apart but cold weather photography puts a strain on all camera gear which is heavily BIAS to temperatures no lower then 40 degrees F. What I use in Manfrotto 190 Pro with a Manfrotto #222 pistol grip head. Take a look at the set up by doing a Google search and you'll see it's all manual no grease, gears or plastic. I've been in -10F with this rig and the photographer gave up before my gear. Cheers from Robert in Canada

I have a ProMaster 6400 tripod. I can make it swivel from left to right, but how do you make it move up and down?

There is a knob at the junction of the cross-supports for the legs. I would think you would need to loosen this before the crank will work. But I do not have this model. On mine, the knob is higher on the shaft by the crank. Hope that helps.

Tripod repair

If it was purchased less than 1 year ago and you have documentation then send it back to Promaster for repair or replacement under the 1 year warranty. If it is out of warranty then there is a bit more of a problem. It is often not worth repairing or trying to get parts for fix certain tripods, Promaster among them. If you would like to send the tripod to:

Spartan Photo Center
197 East Saint John Street
Spartanburg, SC 29306

We will give you a 50% trade in on another similar Promaster tripod. Send this note with your contact information and the tripod and we will contact you with what a similar replacement will be and the total cost including return shipping.
