Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Have a Maytag mah4000aww washer and the "brush" that's around the opening of the tub (inside the rubber area) has some brown "goop" in the bristles. This goop is now coming off and getting the the clothing. Any ideas?

This felt seal must be replaced. The brown goop is the adhesive.

I have a may tag Neptune washer model # mah4000aww. When I spin the tub it sounds like there is still water in the washer. Clothes are coming out very wet. Rubber drain is off and little water cameout

When a washing machine drum is removed from the tub after it has been in service for a while a number of objects are often discovered - bra wires, buttons, underwear, coins...

It is possible one or more such items is partially blocking the drain inside the tub.

Getting lint and scaly deposit on sides of tub even after several cleaning cycles. why?

Check that your water conditioner is working and removing hard ions from your water. Also the scaling you are seeing is likely solidified to the tub surface and needs a more abrasive cleaning method, like a brush with stiff bristles, or even steel wool. Chances were that the water level was high enough for some time to allow the scaling to build up and solidify and thicken to the point where it cannot dissolve with detergents or other chemicals.

you could look for a build up of muck- old soap powder etc around the main door rubber, there are places where the muck will collect. put your fingers right inside the door rubber as there are gaps that are hidden . this muck builds up and causes a horrible smell

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer Model MAH4000AWW low last spin

two problems here,
your shaft seal is running on its last leg
the sound is unmistakeable and always described the same...
the water issue, you probably have a trickle leak through the cold water valve
the mixing valve is quite an easy repair, but I would have to say with all honesty, it probably time for a new machine
the hub seal is a tub replacment call
2 hrs of labor if hes good
and the tub runs around 500.00 dollars
sory for the bad news

Brown streaks

Remove the water supply hoses and check the small screens inside the ports on the water inlet valve. Make sure they are clear of rust and debris. A common problem is the screens getting rusty and putting the iron oxide into the wash water causing brown stains or streaks to get on clothing and sometimes leaving a brown ring around the tub. I will attach a photo for reference. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Maytag washer MAV551EEWW top load with loose tub

If the tub seal lets go water will weep into the tub bearing. This will rust the basket shaft and normally wreck the tub bearing. Once the bearings starts to get worn enough it usually gets very noisy. The tub bearing is pressed onto the outer back half of the tub shell assembly. Normally need to replace the inner basket/shaft assembly  and the outer shell with the tub bearing.
Sometimes the inner basket support will crack, this can give an clicking or banging noise as well.

Pictures of this job...
A sure indication was the brown junk/gookus leaking out if the rear bearing area and the belt has spewed it around in the drum that the rear bearing and seal was bad...

The whole outer shell and basket come out to do this repair....what bad bearing and rusted shaft looked like...

I had to remove the back panel. Undo the pump hose & water level hose, remove the 2 shocks, remove the motor, undo the front boot from the outer panel and remove the 2 springs to lift the whole assembly out from the back to work on it.

Maytag Neptune MAH4000AWW will not drain all the water out.

If you are saying that after the washer has finished you are left with wet cloths and water left standing in the tub ,then your pump is broken or as was my case I opened the back and removed the pump only to find a small piece of wicker that had come off my laundry basket . It was keeping the pump from turning .I removed it put everything back in place and saved over $380.00 . I hope this helps good luck .
