You have to format a hard drive with a third party disk unless its a usb data drive Restart your computer During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS then using the arrow keys navigate to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd press escape then press f10 to save to cmos restart If its an external hard drive or a usb pen drive click start right click on my computer select open you should see your pen drive right click then select format another way is to click start control panel administrive tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select format Hope this helps.

I cannot format my USB. it's write protected.

Some usb keys or flash drives have a little switch that locks it & makes it read only. Try looking for something like this. Or you try following these steps:

For USB drives:

1. Open Start -> Run...
2. type diskmgmt.msc and press enter
3. right click on the partitin you want to format (where the leter and size is)
4. select 'Delete Partition...' and confirm
5. right mose button in the same place and select 'Create partition'
6. select primary partition
6. select size, file forma, disk leter, label etc should be all right if you leave defaults.
7. click ok

This will recreat the partition and format it in proper way.

I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FixYa!

Hello, i have sony vaio VPCEB46FG laptop & i have

Hi,

You're getting what's known as the 'blue screen of death' as some may call it.
This happens for various reasons, but usually occurs when Windows encounters a conflict with a hardware component in your laptop. When you try to install XP, are you doing so as a secondary operating system (dual OS boot) or are you trying to install it over Windows 7?
If you are installing XP over Windows 7, try doing a full format during setup instead of the usual quick setup. This may take some time, possibly requiring you to format the hard drive overnight but it may well solve any 'blue screen' issues you're experiencing.

Let me know if I can assist any further.

Best wishes,
Graemevm

My PC recognizes my hard drive but it's making a ticking sound & it won't re-format. I'm running Win7 & have tried both reformat settings-NTFS and exFAT but there is not action at all....

I'm sorry to hear that your hard drive is having trouble. Based on your description of the "ticking sound" and the fact that the drive was dropped, the drive is probably physically damaged. Unfortunately, this means that your drive is failing in a way that isn't fixable; it will have to be replaced.

I accidentally reformat my removable hard disk, i need help on how to recover all lost data.

All your files are still stored on the removable hard drive. They're just invisible or inaccessible. You can recover them with data recovery software.

I used this one to recover files from my formatted external hard drive and it worked. Anyway, you can download it and scan your removeable hard drive for free to preview whether you can recover your data.
Hope this help!
