This can be done in Disk Management by deleting partitions. Win 7 partition expansion aka dynamic drive properties. Or just right click on drive and format.

Run only win 98.get's blue screen when trying to install win xp,vista on win7

you get this message when there is some hardware which is incompatible or fails / crashes during the installation of OS since you have tried a different hard disk already it cannot be that so try with a different Ram or update bios / replace motherboard.

When i want to open my D drive ,it gives this masage 'the disk in drive d is not formatted. do you want to format it? yes or no' . i don't want to format it. what shoud i do?

As you know already that format disk basically creation of FILE ALLOCATION TABLE (FAT) NTFS (new technology file system)
it is necessary to store data on disk. but if this error occurs while disk already formatted with any file system then simply run disk repairing utility to fix the problem
If its intel based machine or AMD and running windows then i would recommend run scandisk utility
if its mac run disk utility from utilities and check disk for any error and it will repair the disk
good luck

I just got the HITACHI SimpleDrive 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive HSD1000 recently and downloaded some files from a mac on to it, now I'm trying to access the information from it from a Windows &...

The external hard disk must be formated in a file system that both the pc and the mac can use - best is FAT32. In your case the file system that the mac put on the disk is incompatible with the pc.
Make sure the files you want to move are still on the mac (if not copy them back from the disk), plug the disk in the pc and format it there in FAT32 (don't use the quick option), plug it in the mac and copy the files and unmount the disk before disconnecting it from the USB connector. Now you can put it in the pc - in there always use the Safely disconnect icon, don't just yank out the cable.
