I am having almost the same problem, except it's my black ink that won't print. Also, I found a little spring, about 3/4 inch long, laying under the cartridge holder.

Sorry, also, I have a 2610, I did replace both of my cartridges with OfficeMax remanufactured cartridges, and I'm still having the same problem.

Will not copy

This means one of the cartridges is defective, they cant align if they cant print. What i did to fix this problem is insert 2 working cartridges and get it to align properly, even if they are low on ink, then lift the cover and the cartridges will move to the center. When this happens pull the power cable out, then insert the full non functioning cartridge. Plug the power cable back in. I tried this with a color cartridge, the color cartridge was non functioning but i was able to print in black. Basically you align the cartridges and then swap them so the printer thinks they are still aligned. The color still doesnt work and it is probably a defective color cartridge.

My Hp 1610 All in One Printer-Scanner-Copier does not print and when copying the paper comes blank

Try replacing the cartridges and make sure when you install them you remove the plastic on the bottom. Sounds like it may be silly but in this fixes a lot of problems with these printers. I would even get new cartridges even if the old ones aren't empty to eliminate that as a factor. From there I would run through all the diagnostic and alignment programs associated with printer. If that all fails (I know this is a site about fixing things) but a new printer that uses the same cartridges is the way to go I wouldn't invest a lot of time in this when a new one with new cartridges is 40 dollars.

go to hp.com, support and troubleshooting, type in your pirnter model number and download the user manual. follow the direction to disassemble the printer. you might not need to disasseble the printer, if you can see the jammed paper.
follow the direction and clean the roller and the printer head.
it should work.

Allignment of new cartridge takes a very, very long time with garbled message on screen

My guess is that either the cartridge isn't compatible with the product or there's an issue with the electrical contact between the cartridge and the print carriage. I found a document at HP's web site that addresses both of these issues. After clicking on the following link, review Solutions 3 and 5 to see if either one helps. There's a link on that page after Solution 3 that lets you check the print cartridge compatiblity.

Remove and checl color cartridge

The problem most likely is with the electrical contact between the color cartridge and print carriage. Even if you've replaced the cartridge, if the contacts on the carriage are still dirty, it won't make a good connection with the new cartridge and the error message will still appear.

Fortunately, the HP web site has a solution posted at the following link:

Cleaning Cartridge and Print Carriage Contacts

Good luck.
