I would start by replacing my AC adapter. Is sounds like a short in your power supply. If that doesn't fix it then it is an issue with the laptop.

SOURCE: Packard Bell Easynote R1802 Switch Off When Battery is plugged in

The battery is probably faulty, try a different one. If it does the same thing with a different battery, then must be a short in behind the battery socket on the laptop. In that case better take it to service.

SOURCE: laptop won't turn on

The blinking orange battery light generally indicates that the battery isn't working properly, usually going out and not charging properly. In this case, since the adapter will not power the machine without the battery, and it should, I'm going to say that the adapter is going out and not getting the proper amount of power to the system. Try replacing the adapter. Be sure to replace it with a Dell replacement, the Targus brand universal adapters do not work well with Dell machines, and in most cases won't work at all.

It sounds like you have a faulty power jack, and possibly a dead battery as well. You should take it to a person you may know that can order and solder a new one in or take it to your local electronics repair shop. I do repairs like this on a daily basis for my computer business.

Nc6000 multibay battery does not recharge

Perhaps remove the multi-bay battery, and let main battery charge all the way. Then reattach multi-bay battery, and see if it's recognized.
(Will charge)

That is AC adapter (Charger) removed, then remove multi-bay battery.
Plug AC adapter back into laptop, THEN plug AC adapter into power.

[You do Not want to unplug an AC adapter from a laptop, with the AC adapter plugged into power. Could be a power surge/voltage spike. Unplug AC adapter from power, when plugging into laptop, or unplugging from laptop ]

Main battery charged, unplug power to AC adapter, unplug AC adapter from laptop. Plug multi-bay battery in, then AC adapter.
(Then plug AC adapter into power)

Why won't my gateway MD78 power on?

Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:
Possible causes:

1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
1. Test the AC adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

2.It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

Gateway id49c notebook power issues

http://support.gateway.com/s/notebook/2010/gateway/id/id49C/ID49Cnv.shtml

1) Test the AC adapter (Charger) first.

http://www.itsbattery.com/gateway-ac-adapter/Gateway-ID49C-AC-Adapter.html

Test with a multimeter.
(An economical multimeter can be purchased for as little as $5 to $12. Available in a multitude of stores. An auto parts store is but one example. Checkout aisles of major discount stores, may have them on the rack)

Function knob set to DC Voltage.
(If just a symbol the symbol is a dotted line over a solid line)
If more than one DC Voltage scale set it to the 0 - 50 Volt scale.

Positive (Red) probe lead of multimeter goes to the Center Hole, of the plug end that plugs into the laptop.
Negative (Black) probe lead touches the cylindrical metal shell, on the outside of the plug end.

You should be reading 19 Volts DC.

Also have an assistant gently wiggle the cable from AC adapter to laptop, and power cable to AC adapter (Charger)
Fluctuation in the reading means you have broken wires.

AC adapter checks out OK?

2) DC Power Jack:

The DC Power Jack is the jack on the laptop, that you plug the AC adapter (Charger) into. (DC_IN)

Battery removed, (And AC adapter, 'natch), use a No.2 pencil, and with the eraser, gently see if you can move the Center Pin around.
ANY perceptible movement means damage to the DC Power Jack, and replacement.

3) AC adapter and DC Power Jack checks out?

Problems with the Power MOSFETs used in the power section, on the motherboard, or possibly Ceramic Capacitor failure.
(Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor, and they are Surface Mount Devices)

Using the HP Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, as an example,

http://mayohardware.blogspot.com/2010/04/important-parts-on-dv6000-and-dv9000.html

Looking down at the second photo with the Alpha and Omega Semiconductor - AO4407 - Power MOSFET circled in Yellow, look at the small rectangular shaped object to it's Right. Has a wide dark band on it.

This is a Ceramic Capacitor.
There is one above it of the same size, one above that one, and one to the right of the top one.
If any one of these, or the Power MOSFETs are blistered, blackened, or bubbled, they need to be replaced.

Due to issues that could arise by replacing, and having more components be bad, or go bad; the logical choice by most tech's is to simply replace the motherboard.
(Also puts more dinero in their pockets)

Can i use this lap top with plug in and not a battery?? where is the plug in?

I BELIEVE so. Some laptops require the Battery to at least be in the laptop, whether they are good, or not.
Others will allow the laptop to run off of the AC adapter (Charger), with the Battery not installed.

Gateway Support > Gateway MD26 series of Notebook PC's > Main Support page,

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=2364

Click on the - Support Documents - tab.
(Drivers / Applications / BIOS / Patches / Support Documents / etc)

Click on - Product Views - in the list.
Click on - Left View
Power connector

This is where the AC adapter (Charger) plugs in.

Examples, (Note US and Europe have different power plug ends),

http://www.batterytech.com/products.aspx?category=ac_adapter&brand=gateway&model=MD2614U&pid=AC-1990111

[The laptop uses DC electricity. Just like the Battery it has, and flashlight batteries. DC Voltage.
The AC adapter (Charger) converts your household, or business, electricity from AC to DC.
(19 Volts DC. In comparison two D cell flashlight batteries store 3 Volts DC ]

Gateway M 6843 won't turn on

You may have already done this, but remember many laptops require that you remove the battery for about 30 sec. as
well as disconnect the AC power to reset them.
Always try this when everything appears completely dead.

My toshiba laptop wouldn't work well when connected to power source but will function well am using the battery

Laptop shuts off when AC adapter plugged in
Problem description: The laptop shuts off when AC power adapter is plugged in. The laptop works fine on battery power but as soon as you connect it to AC adapter, the laptop turns off.
Possible cause: 1. Power adapter failure.
2. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution: First of all, test the power adpater. Make sure the apdapter outputs correct voltage. It's possible that the outup voltage is not correct and the laptop shuts down to prevent the damge. Test your laptop with anohter known good power adapter.
If the problem still exists, even after replacing the adapter, most likley it's the motherboard failure. Replace the motherboard

Gateway lt21 netbook not charging

First of all, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.
