Whirlpool Side by Side Fridge fan sounds hitting coming from rear

There is a sound coming from the back of the refrigerator a few times a day. Sounds like a fan is hitting something.

Anyway to take the fridge apart and try to fix it? What could it be?

This is because of ice accumulation near fan assembly. ulplug fridge and keep it open for 48 hours until all ice melts.

Whirlpool conquest side by side. Ice began melting and red light for filter replacement was on. I changed the filter but it didn't seem to fix the issue. Few days later everything began working fine but...

Turn the temp control to max, does the compressor come on? If yes feel the discharge line at the back of the compressor, is it nice and cold? If yes you can eliminate the simple items, make sure all the fans are working inside the fridge and at the rear of the unit. Check to make sure the defrost drain/trap are clear. Let it run for a while, then drop the temp to the usual setting it, and see what happens.

Hi,

There are a few things that can cause fan noise to come from your refrigerator. Check out this tip that I wrote about refrigerator fan noise.

Whirlpool gold gs65haxmL00 just got noisy

I think if you could pull the refrigerator away from wall and remove the paper cover that covers the compressor and condenser area located down near floor with out reaching inside examine fan and compressor sounds from behind. Grab a light and look to see where the sound is coming from. Condenser fans tend to become loose on the shaft and Technicians call this shaft play. Shaft play can lead to the fan touching the outer housing or shroud that directs the air over condenser to keep it cool and the inside of refrigerator cold. Shaft play can also lead to fan failure and the the compressor will become too hot to run normally. It would not cost anything to look because sounds seem to bounce when you are not near where they are made. I will be back in a few minutes with a user manual and parts manual for your model, Thanks Sea Breeze

Noisy Whirlpool refrigerator

See if the sound is coming from the fridge in the top where the controls are. This would be he electronic control. They will click when going bad. Part 6 on this diagram.

Could also be a fan blade hitting something like ice or a wire. One fan is in the freezer behind the rear cover and one is underneath next to the compressor. The one in the freezer may cut off when door is opened so hold the door switch down when checking.

Could be the starter/overload relay but you would also have a cooling problem if that's the case.

Fridge working off/on

If the noise was coming from the compressor when it was cutting off or starting, it was the internal mounts of the compressor and the compressor will have to be replaced. If the noise was a fan, it may have stopped. One is in the freezer behind the rear cover and one is underneath where the compressor is behind the cardboard cover.

GSS201EPH WW.... Freezer is making a very loud noise. It sounds like a fan hitting. Everything works

Check to see if the condenser fan in the rear of the fridge towards the bottom isn't hitting anything. If its inside the fridge it might be ice built up around the evaporator fan.

My refrigerator growls. It sounds as if there is a bear in there

It could be a fan motor growling, isolate the sound from freezer or refrig or the back. or during some refrigeration cycles the freon surging can also sound like water gushing or growling usually at start up though. The fans can be vibrating, hitting or going fast to slow dc motors.

The clicking is from your compressor relay on the side of the compressor it has eather went bad or a condenser fan motor is not running this will cause the walls to be warm if the fan is running in the back try cleaning the coils hope this helps
