Most all of the newer playpens called Pack N Plays use a bottom-center safety device. You must lift up the bottom of the playpen, usually a tab or twist handle. Either lift or twist and lift to be able to drop or raise the sides. YOU CANNOT RAISE OR LOWER THE SIDES UNLESS YOU LIFT THE SAFETY UP. Dont man-handle the sides. Slamming them up or down will break them. Sometimes it helps to lift the side releases before pressing the releases thet are inside the cloth. Basically the floor of the playpen has to be sticking up to allow the sides to raise or lower and lock.
The "trick" with the collapsing the foundations playpen is to step on the middle ring while pulling up on the "quick release latch in the middle of the long sides first, then the short sides. Works every time!
