How do i replace the hepa filter on a dyson dc18? I removed it and now I cannot put it back on.

It is very simple to change the filter and re-attach the canister. Once you have removed the main canister (the one that has the washable filter) you should see the plastic canister, which houses the Hepa Filter. 1) To make life easy, turn your vacuum around, so you are now looking at the back (where the hose and wand are). 2) Remove the hose and wand as you normally would, if you were going to use them. Just lay it on the floor. 3) Now that they are out of the way, you should see the grey plastic holder, towards the bottom (approx 6 inches above the red release peddle for the vacuum. It is attached to the vacuum with only 2 Phillips-Head screws, and was used to keep the hose in place. 4) Use a screwdriver to remove the screws (one one each side). Once it's removed you should easily beagle to change the Hepa Filter. NOTE: Pay attention to where the 4 inverted latches on the canister are, and pay special attention to the fact that there is an extra latch on the canister, which faces the opposite direction of the others. It is this latch on the canister, which must be located through the back handle of the vacuum, since this was the main latch that was secured by the grey hose piece, which you first removed. 5) To reassemble the canister, line up the clips, especially the one that I just mentioned, and make sure the canister is flush against the base. 6) Now, reattach the hose securing piece that you originally removed, and the Hepa Filter and plastic canister should now be fully secured. 7) Place the hose and wand back into their original position and you should now be ready to vacuum. I hope this was helpful. S.I. Educator

I have a Eureka 4800 series the Boss upright with a bag and Hepa filter. I love it! I was just vacuuming with the hose part and all was well and then suddenly the lower brush came on and a "burning" smell...

I had the same problem. Take out the old belt if possible. Remove the 4 screws inside the filter and the 3 on the front of that housing. pull out the foam around the motor. carefully pull out the suction tube that is press fit against the motor. then you can pull the motor out. place it on its side, shaft side up and grab your hammer. tap down the metal sleeve that has been rubbing against the plastic housing. reinstall everything including a new belt and you should be good to go.

There is minimal suction in the hose. Nothing appears to be blocking the hose.

You most likely have a gasket out of place.
1. On the bottom, there is a panel held in by two screws. Open that up. Inside you will see a white gasket that should be aligned with the hole. If it is not aligned, you will not get good suction.

2. The other gasket will you require you to take out the two screws on the blue cover (at the base of the unit where the dial is). You will see a black plastic tube with two clear tubes attached. Remove the two tubes. remove the screw holding the black plastic tube in. Inside is a red gasket. Ensure that is in the correct place. Reattach screw + clear tubing. Reattach blue cover.

Let me know if this helps.

How to reassemble vacuum elbow tube with plastic insert?

If the plastic insert has come off then that is not normal. It should be all one piece to the hose. You might have a hose problem that needs replacing.

The motor will need either a rebuild with new bearing, or replacement. Parts should be no more than $100 .EASY project. 20 minutes max fro a pro shop. If you can tie your shoes you can do this one yourself.
If replacing, upgrade to a ball/ ball ( double ball bearing) motor, same height, generally an AMTEK Lamb. A ball ball motor will give longer life
Under the cap you have removed are 3 screws.
You will detach them last. Note they are slightly offset in their pattern.
Open the vac as though changing the cone. Remove the plastic cone by undoing the center screw. Remove the inner filter disc and change . This should be changed every 6 months...
Now you will see three, screws or nuts in a triangle pattern. Detach them. Remove the rubber switch pedal from above .
.Now detach the upper 3 screws and the motor housing will lift off. Voila. Inspaect the cord inside and out for wear at it's socket. Now is the time to shorten if required.
There should be an insulating disc about the size of a coin between the motor top and the screen below the vac handle. You MUST reinstall on the new motor in case of a short in the vac.
Remove the foam or felt "muffler" and clean or replace.
Remove the wire nuts and note the wiring pattern for the switch, motor and power head. Note the motor position versus the cord. Mark with felt pen and reinstall the same.
Do not twist the wires when reinstalling, only twist the wire nuts. Check that they are tight and reinstall in opposite order.
Please post back if tehre is a problem or this helps

Electrolux #1521 Canister Vacuum won't stay closed

hi from uk your problem with the canister cover/door coming off whilst vaccing ? you have renewed bag ? ok but there is a filter/gauze also inside the canister where bag is fitted if you check inside you should see the filter at opposite end from where bag is secured it is usually fitted behind a slotted pull out plastic gate ? this filter/gauze is to allow air out of canister when vaccing and the filter traps any dust that may accumulate inside the canister case so the dust does not get blown out to atmosphere/rooms SO if this filter is clogged it will not allow vacced air to escape out of canister so result is build up of pressure within cylinder and eventually cover flips open ! so for now you can remove filter/gauze and wash then dry refit this will allow air to escape from canister but still retain dust particles from escaping as it is designed for however may i suggest you replace filter when convenient ? all above is on assuming that the latch on cover is working ok and not now damaged ? hope this helps best wishes

Model 116 hose clog?
Posted by rfrazelle on Jun 23, 2008
My old canister model 116 followed with numbers 2839580 marked Kenmore 3.9 with power-mate, worked fine until the bag got overly full. I have changed the bag, cleaned the filter, and removed a nasty hair/fur/dust clog :-p from the lower metal tube of the power mate. It now has very weak suction and won't pick up anything. I suspect a clog in the grey plastic flexible tubing attached to the canister but cannot get it apart. Advice?
RJ

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Kenmore 22313 Bagged Canister Vacuum. The best way to find a clog in an electric hose is to use a steel ball or a large marble to place inside the hose and to let it so threw as far as it can to determine where the hose clog is. Once you have determined where the hose clog is then you can use a small end of a broom handle of take an old wire coat hanger and place a hook on the end and try to pull the clog out of the electric hose – the electric hose is very expensive so try not to damage the hose in any way, shape or form. Or another way is that id you have another canister vacuum you can try to pull the clog apart by using two vacuums turned on and running. If you are successful then run the round marble or steel ball thru the hose again and the clog should be cleared.

Dirt finder sensor stopped working

I had the same problem with a hoover windtunnel 6200 - u5477-900. I removed the flexible hose from top of the plastic tube running vertically along the right side of the back of the vacuum. When I used a flashlight to look into the plastic tube, I could see a clog at the bottom, where the flexible hose curved frontwards towards the brushes. I then removed the 2 screws holding the vertical plastic tube to the vacuum. When I disconnected the plastic tube from the flexible hose at the bottom, I found a clog of dirt and dog hair. After removing the clog and reassembling, the clean / dirty light now moves back and forth from red to green.

Did you replace the hepa filter with a new one? Those filters may not look bad, but after a period of time and use, air is restricted thru them. They should be changed at least once per year.
