Question about ERP Microwave Capacitor - 13QBP21095

Open Question

Over the range Frigidaire fgbm185kfa

Can I replace this without removing the oven from the wall? I removed the circuit board on the right vertical space by the door. Don't see the part there. Any help would be appreciated. Mike

If you have removed the bolts in the cabinet above, the unit is hanging down on the range. All you need to do is get a helper and lift the front edge a little bit and then lift the edge at the wall up about an inch and lift it off.

Frigidaire model PLMV178HC control panel replacement

I can't find if there's a difference between model PLMV178HC and PLMV178HCA. Every search for PLMV178HC redirects me to PLMV178HCA. Unless there is grease or moisture on the control circuit board, then you have a shorting membrane keypad.
It is repaired by replacing the control panel frame assembly, which comes with a new membrane keypad already attached.

For model PLMV178HCA, that is part number 5304470533 and you can get it from Sears online for $89.95 (subject to change).

At my Web site, I have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes. (Also, the service manual is here.)

If you have any trouble getting the grille off once the screws are removed, slide the hood vent grille to the left about 1/4", then then pull it forward. On some models there are L-shaped clips that fit into a slot to hold bottom of the vent.

Be very careful when disconnecting the cables & wires. Some connectors have a locking tab (see photo) Next remove the keypad strip (see photo) Then simply move your circuit board into the new frame.

Be careful, because your display tube is made of glass, and if it breaks, the board must be replaced as well.

Let me know by e-mail if I can help further.

<-- I see and repair this problem on a regular basis. Details are here.

This failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line, as the warning label near the light socket advises.

This causes a failure on the control circuit board.

The lights can can be inoperable, or stuck on, or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

You can get it your smart board repaired or order a replacement part number WB27X10935 here.

Whether you choose repair or replacement, the first step is to remove the controller assembly.

Here
is a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Next, disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

Some connectors may have a lock. positivelock.jpg

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

If you choose repair, do not disconnect the keypad connector and do not remove the board screws. Leave the controller assembly intact.

Replace the fuse. Need a drawing or something to tell me how to get to the fuse. Cannot see how to do it easily, without removing it from the wall.

The fuse for this model is on the filter board on top of the internal cooling fan frame.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven (JMC8130DDS) here.

If the fuse tests good, then the oven cavity thermostat, magnetron thermostat, and control circuit board (which we repair) are other parts that can make the oven dead.

Accessing some components (especially the oven cavity thermostat) for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Jenn-Air owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Whirlpool microwave GH7145XFseems to have shorted out. Is there a circuit breaker somewhere on the oven itself that can be reset? History: Trying to turn off the oven light when the door was open, I...

There should be a line fuse inside, and a less likely culprit would be the oven cavity thermostat.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

mini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgAt our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find your mini-manual, or if you want to look at it before removing the controller, you can download it here (just enter your full model number without dashes).

If both of those components are bad, it may be a damaged control circuit board.

We can repair that for $39.95 in most cases, or you can buy a new "microcomputer" circuit board (part number 8169379) here for $146.66.

Replace Lamp

Your owner's manual should cover it if it is intended to be removed by the consumer.

If not, then you'll have to remove it from the wall and tear down the oven to get to it.
You should be able to find the installation instructions here.

Our Kenmore microwave started emitting odors and then quit

To figure out what is wrong with it, it will have to be removed from the wall, Then the top cover will have to be removed, then you can look for any swelled capacitors, burn marks on the circuit board or any shorted wires.
The power supply is most likely faulty . You can test the power with a voltmeter from power supply to main circuit board.

They will give you safety info, step by step help in disassembly, troubleshooting tips, and part numbers.

You will need the

I would first suspect the C/T fuse or the oven thermal cutout.

Accessing some components for testing will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

The manual covers this as well.

Replacement bulbs still do not work

Most electronic control boards have undersized circuit wires that can't handle a catastrophic lamp failure. The circuit trace will open like a fuse. If you or someone knows how to use a soldering iron, this can be repaired.
1. Remove the top grille. (Two screws on top)
2. Remove screw above button panel. Push up on panel to remove.
3. Remove circuit board from panel. Look on reverse side for open circuit trace.
4. Repair circuit trace...lights work again....

If you need further assistance, let me know
