Dishwasher won't stop washing

Hello-- Our dishwasher has a poltergeist. It's a GE Triton and is only about two years old. The problem is this- it won't move on to the drying phase, it just keeps washing. When you press different buttons and start/reset it goes to Sensing phase then moves back to washing again. It's not draining either. Help! Thanks so much in advance for you help.

We don't have a new disposal. They two had been working together just fine for a couple of years when this started happening. Any other ideas, or should I call a repair person? Thanks again for any help you can give.

I"m in Portland Oregon. We're not the handiest people, to say the least. Does this sound like an expensive problem? Our warrentee only covers defects at this point, does this sound like one? Thanks for your input!!!

I had this exact same problem with our dishwasher and it was the day after we had some power outage problems in the area "our home included". I decided to go out to the main breaker panel outside (because our dishwasher is hardwired), made sure it was off and left it off for 5-10 minute's (you may be able to turn it off and back on directly), but I waited 10 minute's and flipped the breaker back on. Immediately upon going back inside, I was able to hit the reset button and it started draining and all was back to normal. So the solution to check drain/pump/...etc. might be what do try after my solution, IT WORKED FOR ME!

Could be a couple things... but let's address the "not draining" first

Have you recently installed a new disposal? Ensure that the drain plug is removed "punched-out". The plug is located where the air-gap or your dishwasher drain-line is directly connected to the disposal.

This can possibly make the rest of the machine malfunction due to the sensing of "sitting" water that is not draining. Ensure you're pump and filter is not clogged from debris (Inside, right, rear of dishwasher or screen type material)

Other than that, the problem can also possibly be your control board ($100+ dollars for part only)

Sounds like you defintely need service. However, you may be able to make the repair depending on how handy you are.

When you're dishwasher is in the rinse/drain cycle, does water escape from the air-gap (usually silver, about the size of a D battery next to your faucet). Water should not be excaping from this part/"hole". Should you desire, lets' see if your dishwasher can physically drain the water.

    1. Using a 1/4' socket / screw driver; can you take the disconnect the dishwashers' drain-line (usually white plastic) from underneath the sink (connected to disposal or air-gap) and insert the drain line into a empty 5 gal bucket (standard 5 gal paint bucket or similar).

    2. Then, while holding the drain hose into the bucket, set the dishwasher to the rinse/drain cycle and run/start to see if the dishwasher cycles and drains' the water into the bucket.

If the water drains into the bucket (meaning, your dishwasher does, in fact, drain), you may be looking at a plumbing type problem located under your sink which may cause your dishwasher to malfunction.

You either do not have enough water getting itno the machine or it is not hot enough. 5 years old so I would suspect a plugged screen on the fill valve.

Hello, how are you?
It sounds like you have a stuck key on the keypad, preventing you to push any other key.

I've seen this problem many times in the past 4 years.

Good luck.

GE Triton arms don't spin

Peace,
Cut off the power at the breaker for 5 minutes and then turn it on and see if the system resets!
How old is the machine?

Other wise you need hands on service! And a new machine will pay for itself in only a few years!

Bless You!

Make sure wash arms are going around. Set the arms to point right at you and mark with a marker (so you can tell if the arms moved, not just turned 180 degrees) and run the unit for a few seconds. If the spray arms don't move, look for obstucted holes in the spray arm(s). Toothpicks, plastic candy wrapers, seeds, etc. If all clear, so an "Ask Me" for other ideas.

GE Triton Dishwasher will not drain they water after it's cycle...thoughts?

Peace,

The machine was in your home 3 years , and used for more than that by someone else! I can tell you by the model that its at least 10 years old!
appliances more than 9 years old cost you money to run and fix! Throw it out and do not put good money into bad!

The new ones no matter how inexpensive will wash better and cost you a hell of a lot less to operate. They are so much more energy efficient today that they pay for them selves in a couple of years! With a new machine watch your water and power bill go down!!!
Other wise you need hands on service!
if you got the money do it new!

Bless You!

Try placing a packet in the bottom of the DW and then start a wash cycle ( use the energy efficient cycle that does not use the heater to dry the dishes..).. if it is not disolved at the end of the cycle then your water temp may not be hot enough..Hope that helps..
