SOURCE: surround cuts out???

Are you useing a digital audio cable when its cutting on & off? How long between the on & off? I have the same problem when I use a digital audio cable or a coaxial audio cable from my DVD player. To use the surround (6 CH) feature you need to use the 6 channel RCA jacks and if what ever your hooking up dosent have the RCA outputs your out of luck. My DVD player does have the 6 channel outputs and they work but the digital cables won't work. What are you connecting to it? I think something is wrong with the digital circuit board in mine, I would like to replace it and see. Reading your manual will help understand the 6 channel RCA and fiber optic digital cables. I hope any of this helped.

SOURCE: RCA RT2280 surround sound mode button wont select 5.1 dolby digital mode.

I had the same problem and this is what I did to fix it. Assuming that all of your equipment is powered on, (tv, blu-ray/dvd, rca receiver) you'll need to go into your dvd players audio menu and select the dolby digital audio.
Once you do this, the digital signal is sent to your receiver from the dvd. The receiver should automatically set itself to the dolby digital preset. If it doesn't, press the surround button until you reach it. I found part of this information here. And the rest was personal experience.
Also, it depends on if the disc format is in dolby 5.1. I hope this helps you.

Perhaps the Direct TV box menus would shed some light on why it's sending PCM stereo instead of Dolby Digital 5.1.

No sound from tv, dvd, cable. Speaker test does work. Sound stopped suddenly when channel was changed.

What does this mean: "when channel was changed"? TV channel?? Would that mean a remote command was issued? How about FM (no external cabling)?

Hi, when I plug my TV's optical out into the Nakamichi AV8's optical input, and switch to "DVD/Optical" (after hitting "Digital Input" buttno) ... no sound comes out. I have...

Maybe assign it?

If the digital TV-related audio actually originates elsewhere (Cable Box?) you could skip the TV and use the Cable Box as the audio source. Nothing is gained by flinging an audio or video signal around the room to be handled (but not improved) by any device. I have no video entering my receiver and nothing but bare bones analog audio going to my TV in case I want to just watch the news or something else lo-fi.

Sound has static using optical connection on some channels. if I use analog connection sound is better but cuts out about every 3 minutes

Optical digital cables are more finicky than coaxial ones. The seating has to be precise and there can be no small radius bends or kinks in them. Evaluate the routing.

I'd use coaxial if I had the choice.

Two major benefits:

1) cheap standard RCA cable that you can run pretty much as far as you want in the home environment;

2) they can multiply your available coaxial digital jacks because they can be 'shared' between two digital sources or end-units by employing an RCA splitter cable.

You just have to remember to turn OFF the device you're not using at any particular moment so you don't have a 3-way digital conversation garbling things up.

With my Sony Bravia 46" xbr the screen keeps cutting out. I'm usig hdmi cables and can't find a reason why te tv keeps cutting out. The sound still remains but picture doesn't. Not even out technician can...

Usually this happens to my set when I am in HD cable channel mode after being on a non-digital ANALOG channel.

I basically reset the TV by changing to a DIGITAL cable channel -- stay on that channel for ten-twenty seconds -- then I switch back DIRECTLY to a HD channel (key in channel number directly on remote).

TV works fine -- seems to be a glitch when the TV changes modes from Analog to HD

Sound issues with HDMI connection.

manape7

It depends on the device that you are connecting to the HDMI Cable to. Some devices like LCD monitors are not designed to pull audio from the HDMI channel. In those cases you will need to use the Optical or Analog audio output. Note when you do this you wil need to change the settings in the audio setting option to select those outputs.

Let me know if you have any problems or questions

You can check your dvd player for a coaxial or an optical sound output, then you can plug it directly to your receiver. Those two are the best options after HDMI. Another option is A/V RCA type cable, you´ll need 3 stereo A/V wires, in order to connect the 6 channels. Remember to uncheck the HDMI sound output option on the DVD menu.
