PICTURE PROBLEM I HAVE A Sony KP-46WT500 46 in. Rear Projection AND AFTER YOU TURN IT ON A SHORT PERIOD IT TURNS ALL RED IN PICTURE AND THE LITTLE RED LIGHT IS FLASHING 5 TIMES. WHAT CAN BE THE PROBLEM AND CAN IT BE REPAIRED?

Check the crt card on the picture tube of the red and look for cold solder joints resolder, check the video amp for discoloring of chip, replace.

It is a set with issues with the 3 picture tubes but it is quite likely if you locate the red screen control and turn it down just a little you can correct this problem.

Picture is all red


If this is a Sony rear projection, you have a bad red picture tube that is shorted. This is a common problem with the Sony. Tapping with the handle of a screwdriver on the neck of the tube can temporairly remove the short.

Model KP-48V45, when turned on it will pop and turn red.


That is a shorted Red Picture Tube ( CRT)!!! Time for a new set, sorry to say.

sounds like the blue crt is shorted and thats causing the red voltage to increase causing retrace lines then shutting your set down. You can get new CRTs at the following link with free shipping but they are pricey.
